I admit I had to ask Google about that.

We should really rename the thread "what car should Dr. Evil buy for Frau Farbissina?"  [emoji28]

Maybe a new one, but if she's looking used, not sure she would like the Subaru "lifestyle" of overlooking flaws.

She wants something with some "punch."  I say...

of overlooking flaws.

She'd be doing that with a Camaro too.

And lifestyle? She'd have to dress like some bimbo from Jersey for the Camaro lol

...to run with the crowd. You're part of the problem...

Like buying a certain brand of truck to fit in? Or is that something different?  [emoji1]

I'm just not sure if the Camaro is the right car to get her to the trail...especially in winter. But that's just me.

The Camaro suggestion was completely in jest, of course.  However, that doesn't mean the Camaro isn't a fantastic car - just not what she needs - not even remotely appropriate - hence the hilarity of the suggestion.

Ron,

As an owner of a land development and construction company I see it as a self-aware to drive a used GMC Sierra when I visit the job site. I think is relays a better message to those making far less money than I than it would showing up in a very expensive truck or car.... particularly at the age of 36. I find this to be contextually dissimilar to what one would choose to drive privately on a daily basis - although I would show restraint to what I would show up to the office in.

It is not lost on me, however, that John's post of a ZL1 was tongue in cheek as Brig would obviously never drive that. My issue is that every time a Camaro is mentioned on this site you go on with the same old tired stereotype. I find it to be silly considering how well rounded the new Camaro is as well as the fact it is one of the best enthusiast cars on the market today as well as one of the best handling road cars on the planet.
It's ok for you to justify your purchase decision any way you feel to help you sleep at night. Just as long as it makes you feel you're not "part of the problem" like me. We definitely wouldn't want you to be compared with someone like me. The horror. [emoji6]

And yes it's silly. And yes it's tongue in cheek. And yes, it's (somewhat) a tired stereotype. And yes, you take the bait every time. [emoji1]

Going off-topic here, but that's SOP here, so I might as well!!

I've always been interested in the culture of how cars fit into our perceptions.  When I was in consulting, I drove my Mercedes sedan to work and clients perceived it as a wise choice, reinforcing their opinion of my competence.  The car was a luxury car indicating my success, but "inexpensive" enough that I was obviously not foolish with money and made quality choices.

The Porsche always stayed home.  At age 30, driving a 190E or C-Class was statement enough.

My wife received negative comments by the truck-load for driving her Mercedes to work.  Teachers make HOW much money?  Yadda-yadda, on and on.
