I got one of these and it will do 91% of most things you will do in the garage. Plus, I jumped on the Milwaukee fuel train and I love how much stuff you can get without needing to buy the tool and batteries over and over again, bare tools are so much cheaper.

If you can find it. Lifetime warranty on the tool and battery with registration.

I like my Ryobi personally. I have two tools that use the same battery, a 1/2" impact wrench that does up to 250 lb-ft of torque and a mini air compressor that's a little faster than most 12V plug in ones out there plus has a handy built in digital gauge. For the odd job here or there, it does the job.

If you want small form factor though, you might be looking at air impact guns and ratchets. Electric impacts are rarely small.

Thanks everyone.

This one looks relatively small (ridgid-18v-subcompact)  https://www.homedepot.ca/product/ridgid-18v-subcompact-lithium-ion-cordless-brushless-1-2-inch-impact-wrench-tool-only-with-belt-clip/1001598224

I'll keep looking but will mostly pick one up tonight or tomorrow.

That's a bare tool. Would work if you already have other Ridgid stuff.

^^^ Helly Hansen?   :P

Looks compact for 300 lb, which should be enough to undo most of jiffy tire nut jobs  ;D

I have a Dewalt 20V which is just bullet proof, and pretty powerful. Love their stuff, never had any issues.

Crappy Tire have them on sale at Xmas.

Looking at getting one of these, a Ryobi 261, so I can quit lugging my corded impact wrench around at wheel changing time. I have all Ryobi stuff, this is only $98.00 without a battery. Looks like this new design is up to 300 ft/lbs, that should be lots?

I would pay double for the heavy duty model that basically doubles the capacity.

I would say go as big as you can. I bought a 600 lb*ft Bosch a long time ago and thought it would be way overkill, but turns out it was just enough. I hand torque the lugs/nuts when i put them on, and sometimes the Bosch still struggles to get them off six months later. That's with fully charged batteries, but possibly they've worn down over the years.

Also, Yukon gets torqued to 140 lb*ft, so higher than the usual car.

Ah, that's what I was wondering. Looks like the auto mode to avoid overtightening would be useful too. Don't really need one of these, but the wife was wondering what to get me for Christmas and I thought this would be a nice to have

P262, $189

features a brushless motor delivering up to 600 ft./lbs. of breakaway torque, 450 ft./lbs. of fastening torque, and 3,200 IPM, providing this tool with 2X more power. The 4-Mode control board provides low/medium and high speeds, while Auto Mode prevents over-tightening in forward and provides controlled removal in reverse. The die cast gear case provides greater durability in the harshest work environments. This impact wrench is designed with efficiency in mind, the anvil with friction ring provides quick socket changes and the Tri-Beam LED worklights allow for clear workspace visibility

https://www.homedepot.ca/product/ryobi-18v-one-hp-brushless-cordless-mid-torque-1-2-inch-impact-wrench-tool-only-/1001599491

P261 $98

300 ft. lbs. of torque and up to 3,200 impacts per minute allowing you to use this tool for a variety of heavy-duty applications. This tool features a 3-speed selector switch and tri-beam LED lights.

I have a corded Kobalt with IIRC same TQ and it's great. I'd go for it.

Yeah my corded is 300 too and it's been fine, but maybe corded having basically an unlimited power supply is different.

I'd bet on the opposite. Since builders, in my case at least, have used the cheapest gauge wiring, I suppose the voltage drops to 100 or less under full 7-8 amps load and I'm nowhere near the rated TQ  :-X  :P

Unless you're using an extension cord your house wiring should be good for no more than a 5% voltage drop before drawing too much current and tripping  a breaker.  Basically with 14AWG wiring and 8 amps you should be getting 115VAC instead of 120VAC

I will measure next time I use a heater in the garage... Looks more than a 5V drop.
