Value advice
« on: January 26, 2024, 08:39:11 am »
We are toying with the idea of selling the 328 as we are just not using it. Given how volatile the used market has been and how prices seem to vary across Canada it's hard to know what might be fair market value. The fact that it is one owner, accident free and has 65,000 kms doesn't help. A AT search only shows 6 listings under 100K for 2009-2011 in all of Canada and one is a 323 and another a 335 manual.
Ours is XDrive and is an executive edition which meant it was pretty well loaded for the time.

2 car family? Last time I sold a (E46) BMW I would have regretted it if not for the starting of rust. Your E90 is literally the last year before BMW stopped being BMW.

Yeah, that would be about the top dollar for that car I'd think. I think the issue will be finding a buyer in the Maritimes for it though? Smaller market, so it might be a tough sell?

It's a great car, so you'd just need to find that enthusiast who's looking for that particular car, which may take a while. I can't remember what 1FGC sold his 128i for, but I know he had it priced higher & just waited it out till the right buyer came along.

Could always try the Bring a Trailer/Cars and Bids route too...

Low mileage one that was bid to almost $15k: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2011-bmw-328i-sedan-2/

This higher mile one sold for just under $10k: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2011-bmw-328i-sedan-5/

$12K is low for that car IMO and will sell in a heartbeat at that price.
I'd go for a bit higher $15K at least and wait for the right buyer. I get you are under no pressure to sell it.

Zero chance $12K is low. We've talked about this numerous times; your perception on what E90 328is are worth now is way off.

It's a 13-year old sedan now; Sailor keeps his cars in tip top shape but you can find them for under $8-10k all day long with more (average) mileage on them. I think $12-13 retail, $9-10 wholesale is the number.

For context, we just moved a PERFECT 2010 328i xDrive with the iDrive navi, leather, and 82,000km. Original owner, but on taking it in, it needed the oil filter housing gasket, valve cover gaskets and rear shocks. Sold the car for $10,995 certified and it moved. We bought it for about $6,500 from the client and did all of the work after the fact, put new fluids (brake fluid, oil) in it, and a new set of tires. Ultimately, the car's sorted and we made about $1,500 when all was said and done.

I'm guessing that would be the offer, wholesale.  Which seeing he's in the business of selling cars, its fair.  Sailor would have the option of having an easy out, or put in a little effort and make a few more bucks.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

People were saying $12k retail. And Adi doesn't pay retail. So he'll offer him less than $12k presumably...Since he doesn't pay retail. :)

Sailor has a cream puff.

No need to even consider wholesaling those.

This car will sell itself.

Ya I get it.  No argument, and that's  what I said.  I wouldn't expect Adi to offer retail. Of course he'd offer wholesale.

Sold my '12 128i manual with 165k km for $13k as is. It took about 1.5 months for the right buyer to come along.

Sailor should have 0 issues getting above $12k-$14k for his. If anything, the lack of cars in the Maritimes should boost the value - this is without me doing any research on that market though.

^^^

Put the car up for $12,500 and take $12K.  It will sell itself.  $10K vehicles these days are garbage.

This is absolutely right. Since the car is sorted and no stories, it will sell. Just takes the right buyer to come along.

Yeah, and I’m saying if he lists it retail, the number is $12-13K. I’d probably give him 10 if he wanted it gone without hassle.

The 12 number sort of matches what I thought for a fairly quick,  hasslefree sale. ....maybe a few dollars more if i wanted to wait and put up with more hassle.
We are still thinking about it but really don't need two cars and wouldn't want to put money into this one if something comes up. We have been very lucky so far but no matter how good the car is at 12 years old last September that won't last forever.

Will probably wait and get the VANOS recall done in the spring and then decide.

Just to be clear the car is certainly not concours or 100% perfect. There is a small patch of flaking paint on the bottom of the front air dam where we had some frozen plowbank damage repaired about 10 years ago....and there is a cloudy patch in the clearcoat on the roof where a seagull bomb was left too long. (maritime hazard  ;D)

It also has newish (3-5k) tires on 18" BMW wheels rather than the original 17" wheels. ( every 12 year old car has a "story"  ;D)
