The Acura and Honda AWD systems are definitely a step above the Mazda system. Having driven my mom's CX-5 turbo you can definitely feel the torque steer if you floor it. At the end of the day, it is a more than adequate system with the right tires, and most consumers are not going to be pushing these things hard on the street.

Just curious if set on the Mazda, have you thought about a CX-5 Signature? Yes, the platform is older but I like the fact that it is made in Japan. The CX-50 might not be quite as well polished or put together coming out of a brand new plant in Alabama...

I'm still getting my head around the F-150 to CX-30 move. Like WTF?  ;D

Now we are moving from a F150 SuperCrew to a CX 50.   ::) :rofl2:

Something tells me Hammy's wife is in charge of this lease purchase and she has already chosen a Mazda.

FWIW, one must be brain dead to select a select a slip and grip Mazda over an Acura RDX.

The RDX is longer, wider and slightly taller than the CX-5

When comparing the Acura brand to the Mazda brand, Acura has the advantage in the areas of used car pricing, depreciation, horsepower, overall quality, reliability and safety. Mazda has the advantage in the areas of new car pricing, fuel efficiency, towing capacity and retained value.

Generally, not to far off the mark.

The Acura is at least $300 more per month, we are leasing so used car pricing, long term reliability etc. is not an issue, HP is a bit more but torque is less in the RDX and the CX-50 is really fun to drive.  The steering is very direct feeling and turn in is excellent. But yes it is a major change in direction!

Hammy; why do you engage in these preposterous "what should I get next threads" if you have already received your wife's marching orders on an econo Mazda CX 50, being that you're downsizing from an F150 Lariet loaded Supercrew.    :)

A big nothing burger.

99 percent of people aren't getting stuck in one vs the other in typical use.

What are you talking about.  ???  Don't tell me you have driven a Acura SHAWD from 2022 forward.  Slip and grips SUCK if you are interesting in a driving dynamic at least a little.  :)

Most people driving SUV/CUV don't give a crap about AWD driving dynamics.

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Correct, I can assure you my wife does not, the f150 has zero driving dynamics!

To be fair I was mistaken in  thinking CX-30 so CX-50 is less of a downsize..  ;D

CX-50 and CX-5 are about identical as far as interior volume go. Seating position is lower in the CX-50, yet that one is more off-roadish, go figure. The CX-50 has an Audi vibe to the interior, very nice design. I suggest trying both.

If Audi slappy, there's always this thing - if leasing  ;D :

I'm in the 7-seater this week. VW really messed up the controls, but it drives better than the pre-refresh one.

Can the controls be used with gloves?  ;D That was the genius of the original Ridgeline, most controls are heavy glove friendly. Appreciated when cold.

They are hard to use with fingers !!!

Most new cars can't be operated with gloves. My Lexus tester last week had a "glove mode" for the screen. It barely worked, and when it did it was with the reverse, flat side of the finger on larger controls!

To be fair, AWD driving dynamics have sold a lot of Subarus over the years. In the crappy winter conditions lately it seems there's an unplowed 'Subaru lane' beside the clean lane for regular AWD vehicles

^^ Makes me think - Hammy, women usually love Subarus - an Outback could be an idea?

Another good suggestion but she checked one out a few years back and didn't love it plus there is absolutely nothing in stock to buy here right now.

AHA.  Mazda's MMI Rotary knob FTW!!!!!  Gloves or not, it works.

Great. Then they can pitch the touch screens

The Outback should be a very capable Newfoundland winter vehicle.

Not sure if it's a consideration, but the Outback with the 2.4T is VEY thirsty.  Like 5.0 V8 F-150 thirsty.  Both my buddy and my BIL with Outback Wildernesses are complaining about their fuel consumption.

Other than that, they're great!

My test avg with the Wilderness was 12.0, in summer. I will be reviewing a regular 2.5 wagon later this year.

Took the Outback Limited XT out for a test drive, my wife really liked it. It was not nearly as engaging and fun to drive as the CX-50 in my opinion but it has good room, ground clearance, soft ride, lots of power and a decent interior.  I think it has taken the lead on the CX-50.

Definitely a form follows function choice but very practical. The XT is a good choice, I think the Wilderness trim makes it look to cartoonish.
