Skip the run flats, they suck. We got a flat on the 5 wagon this summer. Only got 30 km before the sidewall of the "run flat" blew out and we had to call a tow anyway. Love the feeling of regular tires on the car and will certainly switch over the winters (currently run flat) when the time comes.
Run flats just don't make any sense to me. Compromised ride, way more expensive. I'm completely comfortable with no run flats and no spare. Worst case I have to fork out 200 for a long tow ride ($130 got us towed 70 km this summer). Seems like a no brainer when you look at the additional cost of a run flat.
I can see wanting a spare if you're driving to remote places. But for my family, we're calling a tow truck and not bothering with the hassle.
There's a reason BMW still puts standard performance tires on the M cars.
