2017 Honda Civic Si pricing:
Civic Si sedan: $28,490
Civic Si coupe: $28,890

I guess this is where I expected Honda to price the new SI, but I don't really see much value here. Personally I go for the Elantra sport if on a budget, or step up to a base WRX if I was going to spend that kind of cash. The SI pricing makes the base WRX look like a steal of a deal.
Maybe a test drive would change my mind...

Nice.  So for $3500 more you get more power, a limited slip differential, and magnetic suspension (you have to try this to believe how amazing this tech is).  Better shifter, steering, and build fit and finish.  Higher resale value.

You would have to be daft not to go for this over the Hyundai.

Where did you drive the new si? I'd like to try it out.

Where did you read that? Everything I've seen says it has adaptive dampers, not magnetorheological. That means it has an adaptive valve in the damper that can adjust fluid flow and thus damping rate, to a degree. Same general idea, but vastly different level of capability (and cost).

I see that Honda has this listed on their website and you can do a build and price on it.

I think at $28,500 it offers a fair amount of value.  Sure you can get the Elantra Sport for less and with some added features but the Civic will make up the difference when it comes trade in time.  And sure you can get a GTI or WRX for around $2,000 more but those will be base models and will be missing some features the Civic Si has as standard.

If all you car about is fun to drive and saving money your best bet will almost always be a Fiesta ST (when Ford has their employee pricing deal on in the summer months).  But that's a MUCH smaller vehicle than a 4 door Civic Si.

Yeah, the Civic Si is nicely equipped. Sunroof, nav, CarPlay/Android Auto, heated seats, proximity key, dual zone auto climate, LED headlights, etc. Pretty good bang for the buck.

I can't argue with that.  I'm pleasantly surprised that they came in comfortably under $30K.

Though it's funny how you dismiss the added features and lower price of the Elantra Sport, then immediately point out that the Civic will cost less and have more features than a GTI.  :stick:  :flowers:

I very like the actual design of the car. You can see that Honda was continuously improving their look of the car after each generation to keep up with trends. But for me, the price tag on the car is a little bit high, although I am a big fan of Civic's lineup.

You noticed that huh.  When comparing the Elantra Sport and Civic Si, the Elantra is cheaper and has more features/options, the Civic Si has more performance goodies (limited slip dif, adaptive dampers) and much better resale value.  When compared to a VW GTI, the cheaper Civic Si will actually still have a better retained value.  The best of the bunch for retained value is obviously the Subaru WRX, but that base model is very base indeed.

The price is pretty impressive imo, it's essentially the same price that I paid for mine ten years agoand mine certainly doesn't have any of the bells and whistles.

Nothing says "fast" as much as the second spoiler. I don't hate it, only wonder if it may be a love child of Aztec and Crosstour.

That's an apt description.  :hurl:

IRL they look worse.  The hatchback, I mean - I like the sedan well enough.  Black diminishes the contrast with all that craptastic shiny black plastic - but doesn't get rid of it.

Agree. I was thinking sedan in Si trim. I really like the idea of a Honda Civic Si and for ~$33k all in (including taxes) seems like a solid enough fun daily driver.

Absolutely.  I'm just glad that the moderately priced manual transmission sporty sedan is not yet an extinct species.

...and yet, it'd still be better if they had an automatic option (it's not like the 1.5T/CVT doesn't already exist/fit in the platform).  It definitely limits sales numbers even if it's not the enthusiast's choice.

How many GTIs are sold with the DSG?  How about Golf Rs?  I don't know the uptake numbers on the WRX CVT...

I never knew anyone that thought the Aztec or Crosstour looked hot.  This gen Civic has had mixed reviews in the looks department but judging by how many I see everyday (and it's growing), many more people are fond of the aesthetics.  That includes the hatches, I see more and more everyday.

For me, I think the coupe looks the best, followed closely by the hatch, and then the sedan.  But if I were buying, it would be the hatch for practicality (plus Type R  ;D).

Sure! There is always taste for everything...Aztec and Crosstour were disliked by most people and publications VS the feedback on the Civic which has been overwhelmingly positive.

Amazing to see how popular these are as well...I have seen a few so far - and no Mazda CX-9 lol

C/D First drive.  No instrumented testing.   Honda is claiming 7.0 sec to 60 for the Si and C/D estimates it will be more like 6.5.

Interestingly, the Si is a no-option trim level.  All the go-fast stuff is standard.  None of the luxury stuff - leather and navigation - is available at all.  Curious.  I would have thought that navigation is now considered a fairly basic bit of kit.
