What are your guys' suggestions?
« on: July 23, 2015, 09:32:21 pm »
Hey everyone,

Glad to be making my first post on this forum, hope I don't embarrass myself too much! After a bit of research I've narrowed down my choices to the following: 2016 Mercedes S550, 2012 Bentley Continental W12, Rolls Royce Ghost, 2016 BMW 750 long wheelbase and the 2010 Aston Martin Rapide. I'm looking to lease one of these for a term of 36 months with up to 30k down. Please tell me if I'm taking the wrong route, or if there are other cars I should consider as I am very open minded at this point.

Thanks in advance!

I was just going to say this. Make sure you get all the warranties. Beside that.....you only live once, Bentley would be my choice.

...damn, I didn't know one could actually buy/lease a Rapide. Never ever seen one in real life, not even at a car show.

But YOLO. Get the Bentley Continental W12. What other car has a W12?!?!

Is this before or after you move out of your mother's basement?  :rofl2:

By far my favourite expensive people mover is the Audi RS7, but that looks a little 'pedestrian' compared to some of your other listings. Perhaps a Porsche Panamera Turbo S? It may look like a suppository but hard to argue with a 570 hp people mover.

Yeah I'll second the Audi RS7 suggestion, but it's probably a bit smaller than the others on your list and it's a bit more 'pedestrian'.

Something you don't have on your list that I would add would be the Maerati Quattroporte.  Nothing sounds like them and they're very beautiful.

The Jaguar XJR is also something very good.

That being said you did say you narrowed your list down already so of the ones you've listed I think the Bentley is the best.  That being said if it was my money I'd probably end up in the BMW 750, simply because of the free schedule service for the first 4 years, but I'm cheap.

S550 or 750, as they're new with warranty.

Or get the Roller, because Rolls Royce.  :pimp:

Maserati Quattroporte would be my choice, the sound and looks do it do me - total bucketlist car for me. From your original list the Bentley would be my choice, silver blue with the light cream color interior; a neighbour of mine has a white coupe and it's gorgeous car.

Tesla?

Audi S8?  Mechanically nearly identical to the RS7, but with an arguably nicer interior and more traditional sedan styling.

Or how about an Alpina B6? Not sure how many are being brought to Canada but it's gorgeous (based on the BMW 6-series Gran Coupe) and sure to be an absolute beast.

One of the new cars, S Class among those choices. Hmmm, is that 7 Series the new generation? If so, I'd try that out too.

What's the point of putting $30k down on the lease? Doesn't impact payments that much and your $30k is not working for you anymore. Plus, you have to insure your down payment.

Lease the car and buy a nice watch or something.

RS7

Winner winner chicken dinner!

Best-looking, most practical, and probably the best driving (or damn close) of all the cars suggested.  Plus new, on warranty, less hassle.

Doesn't have quite the cachet of a Bentley, Rolls, Maserati, or A-M....but who gives a damn if you're driving an RS7!!!

Tesla P90D.

2.8 seconds to 60 mph, 10.9 seconds in 1/4 mile.
Pretty much blow away any other car to the speed limit and beyond.

Whisper quiet, 300 miles between fill ups, and no gas stations ever.
About $140K fully loaded.

Our Tesla is an amazing car, and that is coming out of a very comfortable Mercedes (traded in).  There is NOTHING like the acceleration and smoothness of this car, and I've driven some big horsepower cars, the youtube videos of P85D launches say it all.

As others said here, don't put any money down on any lease if you can avoid it, keep it in your bank account, if you ever got in an accident, you might lose some of it due to residual value.

I'd put the 30K back in your wallet and lease them all with 0 down.
