256 Wh/km lifetime for a 2013 Tesla Model S 85.
Total spent on fuel in 2023 for 10000 km =  $150
We supercharge the car twice weekly while doing errands, 80% of our driving is provided free from Tesla.

First week with a 2023 Ford Lightning Lariat Extended Range, average 400 Wh/km.

With road trips expected to be the majority of the usage of the new truck, this means using the fast charging networks which are slightly cheaper than gas stations.
But we charge at the RV parks we visit, so that's just part of the fee to stay and not a fee I specifically pay to charge the truck.
I expect it to be only 2x cheaper to run than a gas truck, whereas the Model S has been 5x cheaper than the gas car it replaced.

And before you get your panties in a bunch, yes, the Lightning tows well, we've done a one week RV tour of Prince Edward County with a 2022 last summer and it worked so well we bought a new Lightning last week.

Lifetime, I've now owned 6 EV's, and saved >>$15K on gas savings, oil changes.   Tires are more expensive than the electricity.  But I drive hard and went through 3 sets of tires on my 1996 Z28 in 2.5 years as a comparison.

Nah, you just think you saved $15k.

Because the purchase price of several EVs would easily exceed $15k vs ICE competitors. Especially so if you were an early adopter.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Especially when you factor in the $10k in maintenance and repairs over the last 5 years.

and going forward don't forget your EV registration fees. Someone has to pay for roads, the free ride is over.

Real cost:

2013 Model S, bought used in 2015, driven for 9 years, total maintenance $10K, total spent on charging for 150,000 km is $2000 as rest was supercharged.
Math is $55K all in with tires, charging, depreciation.
36c/km.

My two Smarts were in the range of 18c/km for 100,000 km total driven, all costs in.

So, I got to drive a 400 HP performance sedan with amazing tech for 36c/km .... enjoy your alternative universe where this isn't cheap motoring.
Electric motoring makes financial sense, and it's fun to drive vehicles like our new Ford Lightning 580 HP pickup truck.

All while flying the flag and supporting and being associated with the lunatic anti-Semite Elon Musk. Good for you!!

Also:

What was the cost of the Model S in 2015?

And the cost of the F-150? I'm guessing, based on your mileage, it will be quite awhile before you see ROI in the Lighting vs an ICE F-150.

I just checked the average on my Prime. It's around 160Wh/km

Your EVs aren't terribly efficient.

A car with an ICE engine is considerably more efficient than your EVs LOL [emoji38]

And a car with an ICE continues to be the greenest, most environmentally friendly car in the world. LOL [emoji38]

I'm having difficulty seeing the progress you're talking about.

back on topic...

7.2L/100km Winnipeg to Regina
7.7L/100km Regina to Winnipeg

Cruise set at 118km/h and still have the winter tires on. Must've been a bit windier on the way home. Did this trip in the Sienna but it would be slightly worse FE in the Civic at these speeds and much less comfortable for the kids in the back lol! Can't quite make it to Regina on one tank in the Civic but easily done in the Sienna. (50L vs 70L tank)

Bought Model S for 64K (all in), F150 Lightning for $93K (all in - $21K discount off MSRP, same price as gas truck with similar options but half the performance of my Lightning).
We drove a decade in the Model S for what we paid in a few short years with the Mercedes SUV we traded for it.
As you well know, my two Smarts were $200/mo including "fuel" , maintenance and depreciation, saved $$ for a lot of excess to buy performance sedans and trucks.

Right now, in my drive way, I have a 580 HP truck, performance sedan and short range EV.
I have to say, this truck is one hell of a kick ass ride, total sleeper till it flies off the line.

If you enjoy nothing but straight line performance, you picked the right vehicle I guess.

The Lightning is a truck, handles like one, except when you floor the accelerator...total alien feeling in a vehicle this size.
If I want to hustle the rear wheel drive Model S on a back road, it's in the garage waiting for me.
Best of both worlds.

Amazing.  How much mileage total did you put on the prius so far?
