I am getting lots of notifications from auto trader regarding price drops on vehicles I looked at. Hang in there if you are car shopping as prices are reversing quickly.

There are currently 105 Subaru Foresters (MY 2019 or newer) listed on Autotrader within 250 km of me.  Somebody will be craving a sale soon.

Same here. I'm watching 2017 X3 35i and all but one or two dropped by $1000-$5000 in the past 1-2 weeks and still no sale.
Stock is still scarce. Seems like people are holding onto their cars longer than before.

I saw a brand new Ford F -150 Lightning for $3K BELOW MSRP. $12K off Dodge Ram’s at some dealers. 72 Polestar 2 available for immediate delivery in Montreal. Yep, the market is turning.

Yeah I'm getting tons of adds for Ram Trucks... 10%-15$ off MSRP but think their MSRP needs to come down too  ;D.

subaru showing 2.99% on the imprezas.

Maybe we should start looking at motorcycle deals too!  :P

Meanwhile, the 2023 VW Golf R now starts at over $50K CAD.  Like I said, price for fun cars is getting quite crazy lately.  The only ones that seem to not be affected yet is the Subaru WRX and BRZ.  How long until they too add thousands to their MSRP's.

Just for reference, the 2023 VW Golf R is more than 25% higher than my 2016 VW Golf R I bought back in 2015.  Now it's in line with the Civic Type R and Corolla GR.

Not to nit pick, but it's not more than 25% more. 2016 price was $39,995 + freight/PDI and 2023 price is $48,495 + freight/PDI.

The fact that F150 Lightning is available, and below MSRP is interesting to me. I have a feeling that thing is going to be a flop; those youtubers who got access to them very early and did some testing with really negative results really did a lot of damage I think. Plus, full-sized pickup truck customer probably the least likely, of all segments, to be interested in EV. So now you've got a pricey new truck that the internet says won't tow and doesn't handle cold well, and a recessionary economy.

Subaru has had 2.99% on the Impreza, Crosstrek and I think WRX at least since June 2022 when I first started looking. And it’s only for 24 months - rate for 60 months is 4.99% (which is still a bit of a deal.)

I am still on the now 2024 Crosstrek waiting list. Even though delivery is "June" there is still no details. Salesman was worried that Subaru would come out with large price increase just as demand wanes. A zig zag situation leaving incentives later in the year to move the iron. Probably why there are no details out yet.

Ah, well I didn't get the break down.  In the past they only listed MSRP and you had to select include PDI/Freight to get the full amount.  Looks like they changed that policy.  Still, that's $3,500 more than what the 2022 model original MSRP was.  Not chump change.

I think that might be part of the strategy - underprice the first year and it goes up from there.

Lightnings are certainly NOT available or even close to. There's a 2 year waiting list for production, and anything that's in inventory is being flipped as used and going for significantly over sticker soon. If you see an ad with a sale, I guarantee it's a bait & switch and it'll conveniently be "sold" by the time you get there. If you can find me a Lightning at MSRP right now that's actually available, I'll buy two.

They’ve come way down. Lots of them as “no sales” at dealer auction. Watched a XLT end bid at $78k last week with 3700 km on it. The big EV hummers are trading at 130k now in the states, those were over $200k not long ago.

^^

Can't be cherry picking certain new vehicles that are hardly mainstream to ascertain prices are leveling off.

The Lightning in Canada is a TOY therefore not representative of anything.  The RAM Classics are 14 year old units and RAM is obviously over producing because RAM lots are packed with those things.  For main stream vehicles, it's full price and those prices look they are ascending 6% per year and will not stop.

Used car prices got spectacularly out of hand so that should moderate some, but it's still a nasty, nasty, market out there.  On April Fool's Day Trudy's MOM tacks on a big eco charge to gas so that's going to drive demand for the wiener mobiles even higher, new and used.

Current large vehicle owners will probably refrain from trading in as routinely so that should keep used inventory low.  Together with the fact the large vehicles are still getting sold into the US where it's more affordable to operate those.

For the record, I wasn't using the Lightning as a proxy for the market.....merely just pointing out that it (the Lightning) is heading for a big flop IMO.

I don't think its a flop.

But I think this EV is for a very very specific person.

My brother in law just got his 2 weeks ago. He tried to reserve one last summer but was turned down, dealer said we have a 3 year waiting list, we don’t take reservations anymore. Then same dealer called him mid December, there was one unspoken for in route to his dealership, most probably a cancellation. He got it for MSRP.

Here’s the one below MSRP, buy it!   ;)

$90K + sale taxes: It is a lot of loonies when financed @7 -7.5% IF bought for personal use...
Maybe for some entreprise, it may fiscally make some sense   :shuffle:
Gone but not forgotten in chronological order: 2019 Volt, 2013 Volt, 2014 Spark EV, 2012 Volt and many others before...
