Swapping an SBC into a clapped out XJ or XK, sure, taking out that gorgeous inline 6 out of an Etype for a golf cart powertrain......is burning heretics at the stake still a thing??

The drivetrain was developped by Jaguar's in-house restoration shop. 295 hp, lighter and faster than the original. 0-100 km/h in 5.5, range 270 km. Honestly, I'm more insulted when people swap-in a mail-truck grade 350 under the bonnet. Still, after hearing an E-Type, I suggest the e-swap be limited to terminally seized and cracked-block examples.

Oh, btw, Jaguar will offer full or partial electrics in all of its models by 2020.

Again, on a run of the mill Jag coupe and sedan, an LS swap is more than what they deserve.....on an Etype, you figure out how to get that sweet inline 6 working somehow.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

A Proterra electric bus just drove 1,100 miles on a single charge

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2017/09/a-proterra-electric-bus-just-drove-1100-miles-on-a-single-charge/

With a battery pack of that size, I'd hope the range is decent.   :rofl2:

Wonder what the charge time is?

I can't help but think that buses and local delivery should be some of the first commercial interests switching over.

Makes perfect sense.

Yup, I live on a street corner with a stop sign. The only nuisance was the sound of diesel bus accelerating from the stop. Now Hybrids buses are in service, can barely hear them!

What size hydro service would their garage need to charge 250 buses ?

That's the problem with long range electric buses. Another option is short range buses which recharge for 5 minutes at each end of their line. NovaBus and NewFlyer are favoring this option.

Actually fuel cell buses are not much more than a diesel bus cost wise and they refill in minutes.  Same goes for trucks.

BC Transit had to retire their 20 Fuel Cell buses in 2014.

A 4160V entrance at 2000Amps would give them enough juice for 8 or so chargers. Not an unusual service for the industrial park areas.

Most buses here only do about 500 kms a day (assuming roughly twenty runs a day, most routes wouldn't exceed 25kms) so they would only need a charge every three days or so with the 660kW battery. To charge 250 buses on a three day cycle, they'd have to charge 84 buses a day, and with 8 chargers, that would be about 10 hours a day with 8 buses on chargers.

I think that works out.

All the major bus manufacturers have a fuel cell bus now and many of the major trucking companies are testing fuel cell trucks.  the advantage is, these kinds of networks don't need huge number of filling stations to service buses/truck fleets.

I do not know any offering a fuel cell bus. Can you name a few?

Regina Transit was one of many transit companies that used to run trolley buses. Take the concept and add enough batteries to cover non-core areas and you've got a pretty cost effective setup, as batteries are the expensive bit.

Lots of downside to hydrogen: generating it, compressing it, transporting it and storing it locally for any length of time.
