My company isn't bad; there's a guideline for hotels (set at $200/night) and meals (I don't recall what the meal guideline is); but I almost always exceed (by like $20-30) the $200/night 'guideline' and I've never had any issues. I travel about once every month or two now, mostly in the US. My admin does the bookings, and is usually pretty good about setting up some decent and convenient hotels, so I can't really complain.

Sharing a hotel room with a co-worker - yikes. No thanks.

Guidelines like that are kind of pointless. What happens if you have to go to NYC?  :P
Why would someone from CTC need to go to NYC  ;D

left lane hoggers: MOVE OVER!!!

phantom cars with no lights at night: TURN ON YOUR DAMN LIGHTS!!!
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Like I said;with exchange and whatnot I am almost always over the $200/night....I think if your over by a certain threshold it needs VP approval - but in my case, my boss is a VP, so he has to push 'approve' for everything, over or under.  ::)

My employer decided they didn't want to pay for any travel time, they wanted us to drive to Cleveland on the weekend for training on Monday, and then drive back on our own time too
Apparently stateside employees were fine with this, us, not so much.

Officially we didn't get paid for travel time, but management made it work after we explained a few things to them.

Now they just don't bother training us, or even informing us of changes.   Opening an electrical panel can be a bit like "Lets Make a Deal"....     "what PLC is behind door #3?"

HMMM always take the best looking member of the opposite sex on your business trips?  Or whatever turns you on.

That happened to me inadvertently.

A woman that worked for me needed help collecting field information on a project she was working on. She was still fairly new to field work in general, so this was a bit of a learning opportunity. It was going to require an overnight stay. She arranged the travel, and I just kind of assumed she was familiar with our typical arrangements.

We travelled to site early, and put in a rather long day, and headed back to the hotel. There was only one clerk working the desk, so she checked in first and I waited in line. As she wraps up she turns around and hands me a key and says lets go.

This was the first inkling that there was a misunderstanding.

I asked if she had booked two rooms:
"No. Don't you guys usually share rooms?"
"Uh, no. We share apartments or townhouses, not hotel rooms."
"Oh. Oops. I didn't want to be treated different than anyone else, and I thought that's what you guys did."
"Had I known, I would have brought pyjamas."

Turns out the hotel was booked solid with other contractors.

Now we had been pretty good friends since 2007, so awkward as it was, it could have been much worse. The night was of course uneventful, but word eventually got around the office, which raised eyebrows.

There weren't any repercussions, but I made sure that my folks were up to speed on travel guidelines.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

My truck has been in for service since last Thursday and i have been driving an old beater van from our spare vehicle pool.  It's a retired utility van that has empty metal shelving in the back and it clangs over every road imperfection, so just about constantly this time of year.  Clang, Clang, Clang.... :P

Ants.  I hate them.  I've had no issues for a couple of years, but they're back in the kitchen again.   :hurl:  I don't want to cook, I don't want to bake, for fear of spilling something that will make them come running (and tell all their friends).

I'm using the Terro liquid ant baits this year, and they seem to work well.  Almost too well.  It seems that the event becomes horrifying before it gets better - I've got hundreds of them congregating around the traps, waiting their turn.  I'm counting the days to when it's all over.

Would putting traps outside for the summer reduce the winter/spring infiltration?

Ants usually occurs when you have a moisture issue. Is there any rotting wood around/attached to the house?

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

No, I think that attracts carpenter ants (they nest in wood).  I have the teeny tiny sugar ants.

Those liquid baits work incredibly well.

No.  You need to spray the perimeter of the dwelling.  But the Ontario Libs, plus Quebec, banned the retail sale of the insecticides that actually work so don't waste your money on outside traps.

In the alternate and for those type of ants you need to discover their entry point.   They live outside, come in for food and then leave.  That Terro shite actually works for those type of ants.

OK, so they are the tiny ants then - I have had the red tiny ants at CTC South on occasion and used a residual ant spray. I sprayed around all entrance thresholds to act as a barrier. That has prevented them from coming back as no tenant has ever mentioned them returning. The tend to lay down markers to know their way back in.

Then just have an exterminator do it.  They have the insecticide.
