seems very un-Toyota for them to catch fire...

My Passat had a leak at the fuel rail when it was new. Just needed the fitting re-torqued, and hasn't leaked since.

Higher possibility with the high pressure fuel systems cars are using these days, I guess.

That is not something that is surprising when VW is involved.  Toyota, on the other hand...
