Yeah, I read that last week.  It's a great article, and goes into way more depth than I ever could.  The writer seems to have done his research.

I put a bid in on some of the new structural material that was to go into the MacDonald Block.  Basically, they gutted that building leaving only the exterior shell.  They were going to build brand new floors inside.  That was months ago, and I haven't heard back, so the project must have gone to someone else.  Which disappoints me, as I would have loved to continue being involved with this job.  Oh well, I got a pretty extensive look at the Fortune Block, and I'm happy with that.

Once again, I have to applaud the new owners of this building.  They won't be making any money off this for a very, very long time, so kudos to them for being willing to save a century old block.

Let's hope the project hasn't gone to someone else; maybe they haven't decided yet.

Thankfully, Mr. Pollard has the funds to pull this off.  It will be a great addition to Main St.

I believe he has also purchased the Winnipeg Hotel, which is the other old building on the block.  He still needs to assess whether it can be saved.

It will be interesting to see what he does with the buildings....not a lot of people are keen to even go that area.

I live a couple blocks away.  If people aren't "keen", they're missing out.

That's not a bad part of Main.  It's opposite Earls, not too far from the human rights museum.  You're probably thinking of the section of Main that is NORTH of Higgins.

ALTHOUGH, I will say that the old Macdonald block which is currently being renovated, WAS being used as a rooming house, as is the Winnipeg Hotel.  Therefore it is true that some pretty unsavoury individuals reside/resided within.  However, with the purchase and renovation of the Macdonald Block and Winnipeg Hotel, the immediate area should become more desirable.

Thanks for the heads up.  Yes, it is part of Doors Open.  I'll definitely go for a look.

I have a bit of time to kill with my daughter this afternoon.  I think I'll go to Fortune Block with her, and maybe a few others.  Burton Cummings Theatre is open, too.

That Pollard guy is young! (I was expecting some old billionaire type)  And nice job!  Takes balls to do a project like that.  Def worth going back to page 1 and looking at the before pics.

The guy in the Article is Ryan Pollard, the son of John Pollard, who is the real money behind the project.

Hope you do post them.  It's fun to contrast between the original pictures I took, and the pictures of the completed building.
