What Motorcycle Have You Been Obsessing About Today?
« Reply #1080 on: January 06, 2018, 02:07:40 pm »
Honda Canada has the CB1000R’s smaller sibling on their website, the 2019 CB300R. https://motorcycle.honda.ca/model/naked/cb300r

Some of the improvements over the CB300F aside from the amazing looks are the modern gauges which feature a gear indicator and fuel consumption meter, ABS with IMU (inertial measurement unit) which is essentially cornering ABS, and a massive 40lb curb weight reduction to 315 lb, only 8 lb heavier than my old CBR125R. The engine does appear to be the same 286cc motor although they do claim 31 HP.

The only downsides I can see is that the fuel capacity has been reduced from 13 to 10 litres, Honda is likely really marketing this as an urban bike. The rear tire oddly gets bumped up to a massive 150/60R17.

Can’t wait to test ride one. I’ve been thinking if I were to switch bikes, it’d be to a small adventure bike, but man the CB300R pushes the right buttons.

Oh I like that! I wonder when it is out. If it is somewhat highway capable I'd strongly consider one.

I rode my CB300F with the same engine across the country, it is highway capable. Tops out at 160 km/h indicated which is 144 km/h GPS verified. I did do a test:

0-60 mph - 8.02s
0-100 mph - No
1/4 mile - 74.8 mph @ 16.00s

yea, my old 250 Honda Scooter would do 125-130 depending on wind conditions...I wouldn't ride at that speed all day long (flat out), but if you don't mind sitting in the right lane at 100-110, you'd be fine.

Holy :censor:! As I've mentioned before, I had a collection of 750cc Yamaha factory special homologation race bikes.

I had an FZR750RR, a YZF750SP, and the super rare, legendary OW01. The plan was to add the R7 when it came out, but the $50k price tag ruined it for me. Sold I sold the 3 bikes to a US collector.

I believe this is the guy! And he's selling his ENTIRE collection!  I see my SP and RR there..but not the OW.

Man...what a collection! Would love to have all the Honda 400s in his collection!

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Mine was stock.

After much back and forth I think I have settled on a plan. I am keeping my 300 for truly gnarly dirt work and will acquire a 2018 KTM 500 EX-C as a back woods explorer. We have some plans to explore backwoods  AB, BC and Idaho, Utah, Colorado and the 500 is the choice. Minimal pavement involved other than the odd transit section. I can motard err. cruise my neighbourhood too as a local conveyance.

Still can't believe this is street legal. As a bonus for 2018 KTM stiffened the suspension and chopped another 5 kgs off of it (I think 240lbs dry now)  I could ride to the local track, do some old man laps and cruise home. ;D

^^ Yeah, those are pretty neat. I posted the 2012 version back on page 1.  ;D Tempting, but since I’m going to stick with one bike, it’s gotta be the 2-stroke.

You thinking of doing that continental ride down through the States? Friend of mine has done it a few times. Apparently you can get all the way to Mexico with very, very little pavement riding.

The 2017 redesign has pushed me over the edge..

We talked about it. First off is a Calgary to Kelowna with no pavement or roads for that matter.

Oooh...  Calgary to Kelowna off-road sounds amazing.  I hope you document / share that journey with pics and/or video.

Not really a go-pro kind of guy. I fear I am too old/lazy to do that. I'll try to take some pics.

Ok journalize it!

I'm just finally organized all my videos from my Cross Canada trip to put together. I have about 10 hours of footage to go through. I'll just get the best of the best clips to combine into a 6 minute montage.

OMG I think I'm in love.

http://driving.ca/auto-news/news/first-look-2018-husqvarna-vitpilen

I've never owned or driven a bike before but it's something that I'm very much so interested in getting into.  When my Golf R turns 5 years old I'll be trading it in and I'm thinking about getting something cheaper and more comfortable (like a manual Accord LX) and adding a starter bike to the stable for cheap thrills.  The thinking is it would kill two birds with one stone as my ultimate plan is to have a big powerful RWD vehicle (like a Camaro or Mustang), but I'm not willing to drive it in the winter so I'll need a winter "beater" (hence where the Accord comes into play).  The bike would give me the thrills I'd be missing by not having a true performance car to drive and at the same time get me into the bike world I've always founds appealing.

The number of excellent starter bikes out there right now is crazy.  This and the 390 Duke are the two I'm most interested in.

So light too.  Although I'd abbreviate the suspension manufacturer to WP.  :rofl2:

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

Husq bikes are really just KTMs in different clothing...this is a Duke 390/690.
