No way we could've gotten that 65" TV home from Costco in a useless SUV...with room for 4 people too.  Why even bother?

Talk to me when you can bring home 4x8 sheets of plywood.

I've carried lots of plywood and drywall in my truck....whats the issue?!?!?

In a truck...NOT in a CUV.  not ANY CUV.

4x8 sheet fits flat in our Acadia.

But not with the lifgate closed...

No, but tailgate on a pickup won't close either unless you have an 8' bed. Most trucks I see are quad cab/crew cab with a short box.

I know.  But guess what?  I can carry 4x8 sheets of OSB, plywood, or drywall in my van with the liftgate fully closed.  I don't even need to take the seats out beforehand.  They just fold into the floor.

I'm well aware that you can fit 4x8 sheets in a minivan.

I was simply pointing out that it is possible to transport 4x8 sheets in a CUV to refute the statement below.

In a truck...NOT in a CUV.  not ANY CUV.

Also for the record, I was really pushing my wife to go with an Odyssey or Sienna instead of the Acadia but she didn't want a van.

edit:

No need to remove seats in the Acadia either to haul 4x8 sheets. 2nd and 3rd rows fold flat just like your van.

Hey, you have this all wrong.  This isn't the praise all SUVs and CUVs and talk about their merits thread.  This is the complain about SUVs and CUVs thread.  I'm just doing my part in saying that anything a CUV/SUV can do, my van can do better.

Except for maybe falsely advertising the size of my Johnson.  That is certainly something that a CUV/SUV does better than a minivan.

My beef right now is with the growing shrinking CUV.  Yup, you read that right.  It seems that the CUV has been getting bigger, but swoopy styling has shrunk the actual utility.

I've never liked blobby SUVs. The styling compromises one of the few things they're supposed to be good at.

Start with a big box and go from there. The Yuburbalade and Expegator do it right. So does the Flex. Land Rover used to do it right.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

that is my primary problem with the segment: in an attempt to be something they are not, and for the sake of styling, these vehicles have compromised themselves into uselessness.

Such a bad compromise, they could be called Niobe or Rainbow. [please forgive the terrible historian humour]

Thats my problem with them, they are first and foremost supposed to be a utilitarian vehicle. Its supposed to be able to haul the kids, a bunch of cargo, tow a trailer and cross terrain that would make any of these car base CUVs pee in their little pink panties. Much like the Shorts Skyvan aircraft, its not pretty, but it will fit whatever you need to get to a crappy little airstrip

Lighten up Francis.....

Not the kind of ladies that you want to stick around, anyway...

Are you saying ladies who don't like minivans aren't marriage-worthy?

Nothing against minivans, but all the hate against CUVs is nonsense.  People buy what they want with their own money.  Let'em enjoy/regret their decisions instead of bashing them.

no, it is warranted - they are a blight on our roads in their vanilla homogeneous blob swarms...and the fact that everyone buys them makes the manufacturers not want to make anything but them [this is happening], so the rest of the vehicle market shrinks, gets less money for development, less model diversity, and then less sales as a result...

yeah, they are popular, and they will keep getting more and more popular until basically no other kind of vehicle is in showrooms and on the road.

CRVs for all!
