The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV WT, has a range 450 miles, Its starting price of $79,800 may be a barrier for commercial buyers. Considering how much ford boosted it would be about $50,000. The Silverado, does has more poke than the Ford F-150 Lightning Pro, in terms of horsepower, range, and towing capacity.

Speaking of work truck grade EVs, I saw a Lightning Pro at my local Ford dealer this weekend. No window sticker and it had a temp registration affixed to one of the windows, but these are apparently fleet-only in Canada and I haven't been able to figure out how much cheaper they are than a Lightning XLT.

I guess a big cost factor is the bespoke platform for the Silverado EV (and Hummer/Sierra) and little to no interior parts sharing with the GM ICE trucks.  Ford electrified an existing product line rather than create a new one.

GM is using BT1 platform to make Chevrolet Silverado. GM is also going to use the same platform for Tahoe Suburban, Hummer Pickup, Hummer SUV, Sierra, Yukon, Cadillac Escalade IQ. None of which are close to affordable.

As far as I understand the WT for customers has not been released yet and might be years before they show up, this is what GM announced for US pricing for what’s available in the next while:

Silverado EV 4WT - $79,800 - Already in production
Silverado EV 3WT - $74,800 - Available soon after the 4WT launch
Silverado RST - $106,895 - Available in the Fall

Both the Silverado EV 4WT and 3WT are work trucks and are only available for fleet customers

So if you are just a regular customer, your entry point is $106k…this is even worse than I thought.

$106k USD is a lot to spend to buy what SavageGeese would call a "here and now" product.  Five years after purchase, you're going to lust after a newer one that charges faster, goes farther, and costs less.

I just realize what you saying. That does seem dumb. But I don't think there is any where currently that you can charge a pick up and trailer attached at the same time.

I just realize what you saying. That does seem dumb. But I don't think there is any where currently that you can charge a pick up and trailer attached at the same time. 

Quebec's newest, biggest dedicated charging facility just opened at midpoint between Montreal and Quebec city, and they designed "truck+trailer" charging stalls.

The 2024 Silverado EV RST will have an increased GM-estimated range of 708 km on a full charge, which is more standard range than its competitors. (This is in addition to our previously announced range of 724 km on Silverado EV 4WT) It’s nimble to drive in urban environments thanks to 4-wheel steer – a feature offered standard on the RST. It is also equipped with our Multi-Flex Midgate which when paired with the Multi-Flex Tailgate, improves storage capacity from 5 feet, 11 inches to 10 feet, 10 inches. This game-changing feature is not offered in any competitor truck.

 

In the future, Chevrolet will roll out a suite of Silverado EV trims for retail customers, offered with a variety of range options. We are starting with Silverado EV 3WT, 4WT and First-Edition RST. The 2024 Silverado EV 3WT will have a starting MSRP of $74,699 plus DFC and the First-Edition RST will have an MSRP of $117,499 plus DFC. Customer deliveries are expected to begin by mid-year.

 

3WT/4WT are available for retail and fleet with features including:

Up to 724 km of range on 4WT
DC Fast Charging - 350kW maximum charge
515 horsepower on 4WT and 510 horsepower on 3WT, 600 lb.-ft of torque
Up to 12,500 lbs. max towing, 1,750 lbs. payload on 3WT

Ford Lightning Flash is $76K USD MSRP with 131 kWh.
Chevy is 180 kWh for same price.
CAD pricing and early adopter costs will be high, expect $130K CAD to get one in the next year.

I waited out the early crowd on the Lightning and ended up $21K below MSRP.   
Still, out the door it was $93K for a Lariat trim all options.   Nuts, but when you need a decked out truck, you pay premium truck prices.

Don’t forget about the upcoming Ram Ramcharger. Blows the EV only trucks right out of the water. Plus, it has the nicest interior by far.

It’s spendy, but everything else in this category is as well.
