i've only ever known one other person who has their helicopter pilot's licence...did you get it from the military??...it's a pretty rare licence to have.

^^Yeah, my BIL (American) also has his rotary wing license. He flew in Vietnam.
He only has fixed wing license now.
Also, who gave you your first job flying rotary wing? How many hours did you have when they hired you?

Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

Love the private sign!  :rofl2:

Yeah, definitely less helicopters than planes out there (less heli pilots, too) but it doesn’t seem that unusual to me. Might be a western thing: there are lots more helicopters working out here than back east.

Not many ex-military pilots in Canada. I’d say 98% are civilian and went to a commercial school for the license. That’s how I did it. Sounds like there are more ex-military guys flying in the States, but it’s pretty rare up here.

Commercial heli license is only 100 hours in Canada, but there aren’t too many jobs available for guys right out of school. Sightseeing tours is one way to start (how I did it at 100 hours), and also those city news helicopters are often flown by low-time guys.

Some guys get lucky and start out flying in the bush right away, but it’s tough because lots of customers have minimum requirements of 500 hours. And lots more companies (especially in the oil patch) require 1,500 hours minimum, so it can be a tough slog to get going.

back in my days of retail, i sold a TV to guy who worked part time for Orang (or whatever it was called at the time)...he would be on call and show up to fly the helicopter when needed...really good money, but kind of a PITA as you need to be available at the drop of a hat during that time...he said helicopter pilots were pretty uncommon...he got his license in the military so it didn't cost him anything, but he said the private sector is pretty pricey.

My cousin had his helicopter license, used to fly way up north delivering fuel mainly to the DEW line sites. Wasn't getting a ton of hours at the time, so he kinda just gave up on it. He's doing commercial construction in Calgary now, lol!

The whole small town was filled with old trucks. Mostly Ford but a few bigger International ones as well.

Made it out for a paddle every evening this week so far.  One of my favorite times of year.  It's all solo for me last couple of weeks though as most of my local friends, and wife, are too wimpy to go out this time of year.  Their loss.  ;D
