That Lotus could make someone a small fortune - if they started with a large one!!  As much as it pains me to say it, I think it needs to be crushed now.  The immense work required would be all money thrown in a fire.

To be fair I told the dude to at least pressure wash the crap off of it before listing it....oh well. :(

Yes, it looks really far gone. It did however remind me of this beauty I saw in Markham 4 yrs ago...

That orange one is gorgeous...I've seen it a few times at various shows.

Because the cars are so simple and parts are available, the yellow one would be a restorable car in the right hands. A company in the UK produces replacement frames, if you want to spend some $, but otherwise the frames are very simple and any competent fabricator could build you something. Beyond the frame it would just be the typical resto type stuff, at least it's complete and many parts would be salvagable.

The issue is the relatively low resale of them even restored.  I know with rare exceptions people realize back their investment (some Ferrari models, etc) but this Lotus would be an especially poor proposition.

That's fair. Values have been strong over the last 2-years or so though. Prior to that a solid, rough but running example could be had for around 5-7K. Today that's about 10K. Nicely done cars are 20-30K.

If your patient, thrifty and have the space for a time instensive project like this there is money in it. I could make money on this car, but it would take too much time to be worthwhile, which is why I passed on it. If I were doing it I'd replace the frame (the only real expensive part) and then rebuild enough to get it running/drivable, the interior is salvagable with a serious cleaning, and I'd strip the body down and do a "tremclad" paint job. It'd look like an above average quality driver and I'd probably ask around 15K. Estimate about 10K of costs, but the massive amount of time to do all that just wouldn't be worth the profit.

I'd buy that Lotus in a second if it were anywhere close to here. Sadly transporting that across the country would cost way more than the cars its self.  :'(

I suspect it would be revived for not too bad of money. Front suspension is very similar to the Spitfire. Engine is basic. Interior bits are probably the hardest thing to source. You could comprise with non-factory bits if need be. Glass is good - a big bonus. Doesn't look like it needs major fiberglass work. Probably easier to restore than a MG B apart from the parts chasing.

I have no hesitation that indeed you'd be able to make it look pretty damned good and end up very little out of pocket once it was sold.  For everyone not you, not so much...

Darn - I wish there was a better way to get this here. I'd buy it in a heart beat. Probably $2k to transport it. If it were even closer to half that I'd snag it. Never get a deal like that out west.   :(

I wonder what the towing capacity is of my 2 ...

Leave your wife the 2 - didn't she just buy a sweet truck? Problem solved.  Road trip.  That car's not worth $500 as it sits...he probably got it for free after he dug it out of a creek bed.  Just saved you another $1000, that'll pay for the gas and cheap motels.

I got the PM thanks. Its just too far to drive to pick it up. And too expensive to ship it. Sigh. I'd love a Lotus one day but this one will need to pass me by.

I'll take the car AND the owner gives me the $10K so I can fix it.  Consider it completely worthless and ruined.

I love Rx-7s of that era. Brilliant cars.

Hot Rod with a BMW V12? Looks pretty darn good in there.

Porsche 924? Always liked them. The cheapskate of Porsches I guess.
