Iron-X on the RS3
« on: April 02, 2023, 07:36:47 pm »
This was my first winter with the RS3 and holy sweet adorable God, the iron spots on my paint. After my first good wash at the end of winter I got the old Iron-X into action and this stuff really works great.  There were a few residual spots left after use but nothing that couldn't be easily removed. The Iron-X smells absolutely terrible so make sure you use it downwind, wear gloves and watch for overspray or just wash your entire can again after you use it.  This is the definitely a great product to use on your white paint to remove those "rusty" spots.

Yup, I use that every spring on our white GS-350 and lots of purple streams.  Works great and smells awful.  I dropped a bottle on the garage floor once, and of course it broke open. Lost almost the entire contents. Took a while to get the stench outta of there.  :P

I’ve never owned a white car before, so not really up on the Iron-X thing. I thought it was a once-and-done thing on new cars to get rid of the rail dust? You guys need to do this every spring?

Haven’t seen a speck of anything on the new Crosstrek. Hoping it stays that way.

I've never owned a white car before the Passport either... bought a big bottle of Iron-X last spring. Even with the Opticoat ceramic coating I still had a lot of rail dust on it. Other option is clay bar, but the Iron-X was quicker & easier.

Our old Mazda5 was like a rail dust magnet >:(

Anyway, I use Carpro TriX now. For those who use rustproofing like Krown, this helps with the seepage into the surface paint that collects dirt. Also doesn't smell too bad.

I find the Iron-X does a better job than a clay bar, still needs a good polish or spot fixing after but it gets rid of about 90% of it. I think the spots are on every car it's just that you can see them clearly on the white.
