I would prefer if Honda equipped the 500 adventure bike with spoke wheels instead of the cast ones on the bike.  But, I suspect consumers think spoke wheels are old fashioned.

This.

Which is why I said the KTM will be a true Adventure bike with hard core off road capability.

Like 95% of SUV drivers there, I'm a poser. I only want an ADV style bike, I'm not going to go hard core off road on it. They're just so comfy.
Doesn't have to be hard core...just a bit rougher than gravel. Dirt, single or double tracks, etc

Must be some beautiful off road trails out your way.

He needs a 350 EXC-F!  ;D

This place is awesome, and only minutes from downtown. And you even get to enjoy some excellent twisty pavement on your way there. https://youtube.com/watch?v=L0kXIzJwh2w

I reckon it's more likely that modern manufacturing techniques make cast wheels about three times cheaper to make..... #bottomline #Ishouldprobablyresearchthatbeforeposting #whoops

Rally Raid makes a full off road kit for the CB500x with spoke wheels.

My head hurts from all these choices.. I'm leaning towards a cheap and safe CB 300F again.

i really wish this was available here, the CB400 Super Four:

http://www.honda.co.jp/CB400SF/

unfortunately, i don't think it would be cheap though, which is why we likely don't see it over here...still one of my all time favourite bikes...i still regret not buying one almost 30 years ago (bought the NS400R instead).

Just find a used Honda CB-1.  Essentially the same bike.

i know, but they are all very old now, and even then, weren't big sellers, so they are very rare...looking at autotrader now, there isn't one listed in all of Canada.

Come on now...they aren't that hard to find.  I saw a half dozen of them last year...

that would be odd...they didn't sell many of those in Canada to begin with, were only available for a few years, and they're all 25 years old now (or older)...and while that '89 model you linked for $4000 seems like a decent unit, those bikes were only about $4000 when they were brand new (i know, '89 dollars isn't the same as today's dollars, but still)...perhaps the new unit could be $7000 and benefit from all the improvements in the last 3 decades and have warranty.

the new Duke 390 is nice, i just know so little about them...the closest dealer is about a half hour north of here (they mainly specialize in snowmobiles and ATVs, but also happen to carry KTM bikes (no other brand)...none of the dealers in town sell them, so that would mean any servicing would be a bit of a PITA...i can honestly say, in the past 20 years, i don't think i've even seen one KTM bike on the road here...i'm sure there's a couple, but they are rare in these parts...i'm sure if there was a dealer in town, most of that would improve but no one carries them (not sure why).

If you have a dealer a half-hour away and you think that's too far, stick with Honda.
I don't have a dealer for any of my bikes in town any longer.   I don't even know where the nearest is now.

Half an hour? LOL it takes me 15 min to get from my house to civilization.

30 min is basically around the corner, don't see a problem here, go check it out.  #teamorange

Jacob is right. He's a muppet. No, I kid! He's right though. It's not rocket science in the least.

The worst possible thing that could happen is you need to re synch them. And that's no biggie either with the right tool.

Live a little!

it takes longer than 30 minutes to get to the other side of town, but it's in town...unfortunately, the dealer is in a small town about 30 minutes North of London (Exeter, if you're familiar with the region)...if i needed to have a truck pick up the bike if there was an issue, it wouldn't be a problem if they were in town...tow trucks can take bikes here, and many service shops have a bike trailer and offer a pick up service...having a towing company drive out to Exeter would be a small fortune and i'm not sure if that dealer would be willing to pick up a bike in London...as well, if there is something wrong with the bike and i need to drive it (albeit carefully) to the dealership, not as big of a deal when staying in the city, but driving a half hour out in the middle of nowhere isn't exactly ideal.

as i said, i'm not really sure why there isn't a dealer in the city...pretty much everything else is available here...no problem getting a Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Ducati, Triumph, BMW or Harley Davidson...one of the local dealers also carried Moto Guzzi and Victory but it seems that both have gone now (Victory shut it down, perhaps Moto Guzzi just didn't sell enough units to bother).
