If they do that the fuel mileage will suck. What's the point of that? If you want the 2.5 get the forester instead.

umm...the mileage in the base Forester is claimed to be class-leading at 24/32 mpg...with the lighter XV, it should easily reach or even exceed that.

And what's the point?  Some people are willing to spend an extra $100-$300/year on fuel if it means more power - especially for highway cruisers - that may not want the larger footprint of the Forester.

claimed to be. ??? Is the new  Forester even out  yet? It's all speculation until someone  has actually driven one. ;)

I'm so glad to see Subaru taking on their fuel economy "problem."  They've always lagged behind in this engineering area.  I'm seeing about the same all-city driving in the Highlander as I did in the Forester!!  Looking at the size, weight and displacement differences, the Highlander should burn through a lot more fuel.

I wonder if Toyota has been "leaking" some of their secrets down to the folks at Subaru...

The LeftLane article had an interesting line about being happy if 5% of Forrester buyers opted for the turbo engine (XT).
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

From the LL article (http://www.leftlanenews.com/subaru-forester-first-drive-review.html), they achieved 32 MPG at 75 MPH - that's impressive, since most EPA estimates are done at 55MPH not on an outside freeway.  I have faith in this new CVT.  Stop hating CVTs.

I will be part of that 5% in Feb 2015 when my lease is up on my 2011 XT.  The uptake for the previous XT was far higher than 5%...I think this is their way of saying the turbo won't be 'axed' (thank you, Subaru Gods).
