Car and Driver: 2016 Nissan Titan XD Long-Term Test
« on: February 16, 2018, 08:36:20 am »
"Our long-term Nissan Titan XD Diesel was one of the most disappointing new vehicles we have evaluated in recent memory."

A little sad when the underdog fails in execution.

With our truck’s laborious duty cycle (DEF consumption is relative to engine load) and the XD’s small, 4.5-gallon DEF tank, the 44 gallons we fed the Nissan over 40,000 miles, at roughly $6 per, came in many small doses.

Its actually good to see in-depth reviews still exist since the Autotrader review (or "test drive") picked up precisely zero of those issues.

Wow.  That DEF usage is pretty high.   In 10,000 miles (16k km) I think my TDI used 3 gallons.

Inexperience — they had a first gen to learn from. Nissan seems to do nothing more than reverse engineer their competitors. As the saying goes, winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners.

First gen was a POS.  This doesn't give me much confidence.  However, in this case sounds like it was all powertrain/engine related.  I wonder how the gasser regular Titan would fair.  Not putting my money on it anyway.

That's pretty brutal.

Pretty disappointing that Nissan had over 10 years to fix the shortcomings of the 1st gen and this is the best they could muster.

Must not have been equipped with a german cheating device.  That really makes a difference in DEF usage.

I suspected the truck would have at least some issues given the track record of the previous Titan. I did not expect engine issues with the Cummins.

I haven't heard much about excessive DEF consumption from GM, Ford or Dodge.
