Vacations 2024
« on: August 12, 2023, 08:15:46 am »
First trip for 2024 all booked  :).

We are doing a 15 day Viking British Isles cruise from Bergen Norway to London next July. We add 2 days to start in Oslo, with a scenic train ride from Oslo to the ship in Bergen. I think Weels did a similar cruise like this, this year.

^ Yes - we leave this week actually!  Fly out Wednesday night, overnight in London then cruise from Aug 18-30:
Many of the same spots as yours

2024 we have a deposit on this one.  Azamara, Athens to Venice

We did a similar one in 2013, round trip cruise from Venice, stopping in the Greek islands.  A long bike ride in Corfu is still a memory that sticks with me...smelling the lemons trees along the side of the road.

Well since our trip to Mexico back in March, I've been looking for deals on vacations south since.  My usual websites are Sunwing, Redtag, Costco Travel, etc, and I've been checking each pretty much daily since March.  There hasn't been really a single deal...until today.

Booked a trip to the Dominican Republic for the first time, two other couples, all inclusive, adults only, out of Fredericton with one stop over in Montreal (likely to change before the trip), private transfer, cancelation insurance, seat selection, and it's a privilege room category so a private area on the beach as well.  Regular price was $7,292 per couple, we got it for $3,652.  The resort is Catalonia Royal Bavaro ( https://royalcataloniabavaro.com/index.asp ), small intimate resort with a larger family friendly sister resort next door that we have access to.  We leave March 23 and come back the 30th.  Bonus is that the 29th is a holiday, so only need to use 4 vacation days.

The prices of trips have been pretty consistently inflated all year so far, seeing this pop up this morning forced a quick decision but thankfully everyone was onboard.

^Sweet deal.  Who did you book through?
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Redtag, it's who we booked with last time.  But they are just a vacation reseller, it's actually through Air Canada Vacations.

Stayed there years ago, golfed & hit the casino as well. Punta Cana has a great beach!

At this specific resort?  I guess it has been remodeled in 2016.

Yup, but before the remodel, it would've been 2006 if I remember correctly.

Looks like the rooms are sold out at the cheap rate already.  I'll keep watching, looks like a sweet resort and thanks for the heads up.

No worries.  Funny that you say cheap rooms as these were actually middle level, there is I think 2-3 lower and 2-3 higher, but was definitely the cheapest.  Same thing happen when we booked the last trip, cheapest room was a middle level and didn’t even notice until after booking.

April 5-7, 2024: 39th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals, Phoenix.

It was announced in early April 2022 that Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park would close forever in 2023 to make room for a new portion of I-10.  However, the I-10 construction will not close the race track and that means I will be headed to Arizona for my first visit since July 2019!

Hopefully, I can do two weeks down south.
