Pictures of Stuff

Not sure we need seasonal photography threads anymore, so didn’t start a summer thread. None of these rise to the level of photography anyway - they’re more like pleasing snaps, IMO.

Spent the past few weeks in Saskatchewan and really enjoyed it there.

Yeah, canola. It’s really pretty this time of year.

Yeah, canola. It’s really pretty this time of year.

Were you spraying them or something?

Yes again. Fungicide and fertilizer this time of year. Might have to go back in a bit if the locusts or crickets or whatever get bad, but I’m really hoping to avoid spraying insecticides. That’s nasty stuff.  :P

Photographing canola against a bright, blue sky makes for gorgeous pics.

And Canola smells great in full bloom.  Not so much when it's ripening though.  I miss flax fields...two reasons why I don't mind driving the shitbox to work in summer, windows open, smell of canola/flax and fresh cut ditch grass in haying season.  Glad I don't need Claritin.

Nice pics! Fly safe...nice to know it wasn't your 'copter that crashed last week.  :P :'(

I can't wait for our drive to Calgary in (less than) a month.  Driving through Manitoba and Saskatchewan, seeing the yellow canola fields, and the golden ripening wheat fields.

The prairies have an understated beauty about them...other Canadians say they're 'boring' compared to the Rockies and the Shield, but I say it's a different type of beauty.

Next week I'm flying to Calgary just to help a friend drive his car to Ontario. He's relocating and his wife didn't want him to drive by himself, but he didn't want to drive with her and their nine month old baby.

We're going to be dipping into the U.S. to save time but I'm looking forward to seeing Saskatchewan for the first time.

Parts of Saskatchewan can be unbelievably pretty. My in laws have a cabin up in Madge lake, gorgeous there. The Q'appelle valley is also a must see.

I really like getting out on the prairies when the fields are blooming. It's really peaceful and pretty. Canola, mustard, alfalfa and flax in bloom are awesome.

I would get hay fever from canola, but I'm getting used to it apparently, most years it doesn't bother me.

Hmm, puts me in a song writing mood:   :pimp:

On a flat prairie highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of canola, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering field.
My head grew heavy and my sinuses clogged
The Claritin I did wield.

Last year I took The Canadian from Toronto to Vancouver.

I think the train really helps one fully appreciate the vastness/beauty of the Canadian landscape.

I was REALLY surprised by my visit to Saskatchewan (it was one of two provinces I'd never been to, so I got off the train, rented a car, and explored for 2 days). So much more beautiful than I was expecting, and visiting Grasslands National park was a real treat. I want to go back there again next year.

Back in the rocks now. It’s pretty here too, if not as colourful.
