Don't  know about Subie, but the local Mazda guy has 51 CX50 in inventory and I know driving by the Caddie dealer he has quite a few XT4s sitting on the lot

Seems odd.  Where are you located?

Not terrible choices, but kind of an odd group.  So the Crosstrek is very utilitarian and rugged, the Caddy is very sporty and luxurious, and the Mazda is right in the middle.  Did you plan it that way?

Of those three I’d probably go with the Mazda myself, but there are more CUVs than types of apples in the world, so I’d tell you to go out and just start driving what available and buy the one that you like the most.

So you're going to buy one of these without a test drive then?

You can see my thoughts on the Wilderness in the Member's reviews thread. The base CX-50 has a pretty sweet looks/content/price equation

I will be reviewing the Outback Onyx in March and the refreshed XT4 in May.

went yesterday to a Subaru close to me,he had a dozen Crosstreks in the parking lot
saw a salesman and to my surprise not one in the showroom so off we go to sit in one outside he told me all of them are sold so we cant do a test drive i started the car  and the screen takes at least double the time of my Mazda them came all the weird stuff the auto start stop and auto hold are berried inside a sub menu and you have to activate each time you start the car why not having a hard bottom for each
the temp was -3 C and the engine is revving at 2000 rpm and after maybe 2 minutes it only dropped to 1500
compared to my car at start its at 1500 and then drops below 1000
to evaluate my car he wanted me to put a deposit on the new one which i refused and after and few haggle he accepted, the prize they game me for my car is good but he guarantees it for one month and to order a new Crosstrek its between 6 weeks to 12 weeks depending on the color and trim

all of  this experience at this dealer left me with a bad taste in my mouth

Don't have the big screen but the hard button is a pain too as it's down by the left knee. There is a device you can add that gives the autostop memory so it holds whatever setting you give it

Revs are high initially, believe it's is so the engine warms up faster. I get heat fairly quickly on the way to work. Engine noise of the flat four is not a highlight of the design, but it does seem to get quieter as the engine breaks in

I'd say dealers and servicing cost are the main Subaru weaknesses at the moment, along with the lack of a hybrid and general stock on hand

That being said there's a lot of positives, the AWD system, visibility, ride quality, etc

But....likely you'd have no problem finding a CX-50 in stock

Yeah, the 1,800 rpm cold idle was a little disconcerting at first. It's a two-stage thing - idles at 1,800 initially, then drops down to around 1,500, then finally settles at the usual 800 or so once warm. Not a big deal IMO.

And I hope you're not disappointed that the dealer wouldn't let you test drive someone else's new car. Forget about test drives, I'd be a little pissed just to know that the dealer was firing up my new car and idling it on the lot for others. Good way to wreck a new battery if done often.

Bought my CX-90 at Mazda de Boucherville, my sales guy is a no-BS grandpa, should you go Mazda. We went through hom again for my daughter's CX-30. My Crosstrek came from Subaru Sainte-Julie, but through a pre-arranged deal. Sales staff there look like they were pulled from a high school.

My vote would be CX-50 but not without driving a CX-5 first. I test drove both and was shocked to find out I preferred the CX-5. You may also find CX-5 delivery dates much better if wait time is a concern.

After some very recent comments from an owner's experience of a Caddy SUV I would stay away from them. The XT4 got some pretty good reviews at launch but then negative comments started coming out.

Yep, the 2007 SRX. OEM brakes that needed to be done every 20-25K, every suspension part known to man, wiring harness issues and wheel speed sensors that failed regularly.  The speed sensors were not replaceable themselves but rather required a whole wheel hub assembly (made from paper mache  ::) ) for something like $500 a pop.  Think it needed all 4 within about 15 months and then shortly after that the 1st one replaced failed again.

I am not a Subie fan. Not in love with their interior design. I briefly checked out Imprezza before buying the CX-5. I notable feature missing was rain sensing wipers. I was shocked. Also the reliability experience multiple people I know have had with them is not good. I know that goes against what you read online. But I rely more on experiences of people I know more than internet talk.

Cadillac XT4 is just an Equinox/Terrain in a tux.  Nothing to be impressed about, IMO.
