Things haven't gotten all that much better....

I was in the new Lexus dealer today looking at a RX350.....about 11-12k more for the same trim vs the dealer in Maine. ::)

It is time to transfer money into USD account for that trip to buy in USA.
Even if you think you might not orchestrate purchase until the summer.
I see Maryland is no State Tax as well as New Hampshire.  If you have anybody who knows someone
in these States it might be worth a few hundred to transfer ownership to you and drive
car to border crossing with or without warranty.

What we need is a huge wave of similar thinking people.

I've heard similar stories from a friend who is in the boat business. He's bought large (40'+) motor cruisers out of Florida for less than half of what the asking prices were 2 years ago. I think we may see par or better for an extended period this time around.

I presume your friend in the boat business is in operation in Canada. I think this practice has been going on whenever the dollar is at par or nearabouts. More depreciation down South. OK I guess as long as the use is in fresh water.
I belive the same with Aircraft.

Except I think it's Lexus Canada that's getting the huge margins ,not the dealers

I've given up on there being any real change.

There simply are not enough people willing to actually go to the US and buy to make a real provable dent in dealer sales in Canada. You'd need lots of people doing it enough to make lots of very big powerful dealers complain to their HQ and even then they likley will respond with the same tpe of tactics of throwing up artificial barriers to cross border shopping.

Most people will simply suck it up and its just the way it is.

I think a lot of people are afraid of the process. Some like to lease - so they are out. Some have to arrange for loans and that might be difficult and a lot of people just don't want to invest the time it takes.

Lots of reasons why people can't or won't. It appeals to some, especially in they have the money in the bank and it's a matter of how much they want to take out.  US wins - they save more. And finally not everyone wants the same car and is buying at the same time so it's difficult to try and prearrange these kind of things.

You can also get away without paying 6.1% duty if the vehicle manufacturer is foreign but the vehicle is made stateside.

Now I'm  ???. Isn't it the other way around. You can buy a foreign make car (Toyota) in the US, and as long as it is made there, pay no duty.
