Didn't drive the F Sport, not yet anyway. I believe it is a series II so it would have the HUD.

The hybrid had it, and I could see why you like it for speed. The nav did not show up though, is it just arrows?
Arrows show up if you have a destination plug in

I would make the suggestion of waiting for the upcoming VW Tiguan but you drive your vehicles long term and I wouldn't be too trusting of any FGC for the length that you've owned your current vehicle.

Totally get why you would be weary of the Subaru.

I think your best route might just be another CR-V.  You should get some discounts as you're a current Honda owner.  I've heard nothing but good things about the new CR-V and your current one has been good to you so I say keep it in the family.

Proceed with caution on any used CRV AWD particularly 2015.  Amazing vibration at idle.  Honda has various official fixes depending on where and when the vibrations occurs (motor/transmission/differential mounts, rear drive shaft).  This particular 2015 EX AWD I sat in was sent over to Honda and it came back almost vibration free at least where most used buyers would not notice for a while after purchase.  :rofl2:

interesting...one thing i did notice (but didn't really consider it much) when we test drove the new CRV, was the loud noise at idle...my cars are DI, so i'm used to a diesel like idle (in terms of a bit of noise)...i didn't really notice anything inside while driving though, and the new CRV is DI, so shouldn't really be a big deal.

Some friends of ours bought a new CR-V recently, after nearly buying a Pilot.  They have a small family and really preferred the CR-V, but they did shop most other CUVs when the Pilot got struck.  The Honda won for features and comfort.  They were not looking for a sporty ride at all, but found the CR-V very competent especially given the ride quality.

I haven't driven the new CR-V, but have read lots of positive things about it and heard many first hand positive reports.

it's pretty competent...not outstanding at anything, but still decent.

It's an 'appliance' vehicle.  Great choice if you don't like driving.

Technically true in some ways but wouldn't you agree there can be wide differences in driving dynamics between SUV's?  I know in my test driving lately some SUV's were far more engaging to drive than others.

Driving dynamics are only important if you have roads that are nice to drive on
In southern Ontario , 99 % are straight, eastern Ontario they are a bit better , mostly what you need is a hiway cruiser

Just saw the latest CX-5 in red on the way to work this morning.  Definitely a head-turner!

I think I know what you mean, back when I did my last bunch of test driving back when I bought the Vibe the Golf really stood out for road feel.

For compact SUV's, something with the visibility of the Forester, reliability of a Rav4, style of a CX-5, cachet of a Lexus, mileage of a hybrid, goodies/value of Hyundai/Kia and handling of zee Germans would be ideal. The around-view monitor of a Rogue/Infinity would be pretty nice to have too.

But what can you do, hard to get it all in one vehicle

Took a base LX CRV out on the weekend:

Drove nice, seemingly lower and wider than our old one. Seats seemed comfortable, interior well done, huge amount of room, espcially noticeable in the back seat, which has basketball player type legroom. Seemed to have plenty of power, and quiet. Tons of clever features, and amazing what is included in a base model: Not only heated seats and a rear view camera but a remote starter in the fob, proximity key, heated wiper area, hill holding, etc. Big display screen to one side which will apparently mirror your iphone or Android, which would be the best GPS of all. Another decent sized screen in the instrument panel. And all the safeties, ie radar cruise, lane departure, etc all standard, all except blind spot.

Biggest criticism the wife has was the fussy radio/display. One knob for volume but the rest is all touch screen.

View out the rear corners not great, but not too bad. Definitely worse than her 2002. Seemed to hammer a bit over potholes.

Missing a lumbar adjuster, hard to tell if a problem without taking a long trip

Sat in a friends base model 2017 Rav4 yesterday and it seemed very similar, power everything, lots of goodies. Screens a bit smaller, but more regular type control knobs. Visibility about the same, great to the front, somewhat compromised out the back. He's Russian, and said, 'like a tank, what you need to see and nothing more'.

Both seem like a hell of a deal for low 30,000's.

Going to try some more used Lexi RX350's tonight, and maybe a Rav4 hybrid. Trying unhaggle to see if that helps anything.

I am interested to see what you end up with. My mother is looking to move into something CRV like very soon. She has a '04 Acura TSX with a 6spd manual now so it will be a big change.

Any thoughts on how effective the birds-eye view all around cameras are for parking?
