Well, I have noticed much shorter battery life on cars that have proximity keys but ours last longer than that.....maybe 18 months or so?
mine lasted 5 years before needing its battery replaced.

FWIW, the neither of the Corolla's two fobs ever died in our 7 years of ownership, nor either of the fobs in the Fozzie (we just hit 7 years last month).  My dad's 2006 RX400h (we got it in 2007, so can't comment on before that) has the original batteries in both.

...none of them are "proximity key", however.

mine are, if that helps gauge prox key versions.

when i was at the Kia dealer, they sold and installed a replacement battery for me (it's just one of those flat circle batteries)...it was like $3.
