Kia Rio dead after 2023
« on: June 30, 2023, 08:37:28 am »
Another fine subcompact bites the dust  :P Order books are already closed, all that is left are dealer allocations. Sales were UP in Canada by 13.7% in 2022 over 2021

Only two cars left in this segment: Nissan Versa and Mitsu's Mirage. The Rio outsold these two 4x/5x.

Probably looking at the success of the Seltos/Kona and going meh, no big sales loss. Especially as they still have the Forte and Soul on the lot

Big difference from the Ford/Chryco situation

Were the Accent and Rio largely spared from the engine fiascos since they had the 1.6L?

I'm starting to miss these subcompacts on the roads. These small cars were good first/budget car options for <$20k all in.

I'm hoping we see small cars make a comeback.  At some point, people are not gonna spend the $$$ to have two massive SUV in the driveway, especially as EV take over / gas prices escalate.

AWD has gotten so cheap and good now I can see why people spring a bit extra for carlike AWD vehicles like the Kona or Crosstrek. And with electric it seems even easier to add it in
