There are some things that can be done to minimize the risk with buying a BMW.  First, don't buy any V-8 models.  Second, stay away from turbos.  Lastly, don't buy any year or version of the X5.

Doesn't that eliminate every single BMW currently available in this country?

There's always the used market......

Kind of like how one should search for a pre-2016 turbocharged Porsche Boxster. Because without the sound of the NA flat-6.......it's just another roadster.

Our BMWs have been boringly trouble-free.  :)

@197k on the 2006 325i sport and well, nothing's really broken.

My parents sold my prior X3 to relatives and they love it. And that car is at probably 290k.

If the 3 series were a turbo, that would be a different story...

Yep, We're planning on keeping my wife's '11 328 long term. The main factor contributing to that is the NA straight six.

The BMW straight 6 is a gem.

Those pre-2016 Boxster-turbos are indeed becoming hard to find.

Got the ML back today after it was in the shop the past two days for the timing chain work. All seems good now and the rattle on startup is gone. Had a nice E class diesel service loaner again...really nice car. As always it came back from service washed and having had the interior cleaned....a nice touch.

I'm down to just under 9 months to go the the extended warranty.....time to start thinking about what to do next. :-\
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

So, just dropped the car off...

When you go back to pick up your car ask them where is that diesel C-class wagon they said we would get.

We can blame VW for that one.

I'd say that's right on the money. I was talking to the sales manager at the MB store yesterday and he was saying the 2017 GLE diesel still isn't approved by TC even though it's the same engine as the 2016 they have in stock. He was also saying they have a GLS diesel they ordered that arrived in Montreal last Feb and is still there waiting import approval.

Wow.  With inventory getting tied up for that length of time, I doubt they'll risk bringing any more diesels.

Well yes, that's an obvious solution for what to do with the ML but I was thinking more in terms of what to buy next.  :-\

After all this, I'm going to go ahead and suggest a nice Lexus or Acura SUV.  I'll say the Acura MDX, but as for the Lexus, I just don't see you in an RX.  Maybe a GX?

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

^ He could do that. I say he should go for broke:

http://rules.config.landrover.com/jdxl/en_ca/l462_k17/3dcot/a-200ax-200ay-190_a-hse_a-std_a-std-wb/jdxmodel.html

What could go wrong?  ;D

You know, if the nearest dealer wasn't 400+ kms away I might actually consider looking at Land Rover. ;D

Although, probably not a Discovery. My ML was pushing the upper reaches of my budget in 2011 at 63K. If anything I'd like to stay under 60K this time around so I'm probably looking at something in the X3/Q5/GLC  size and class. Of course, the other option is a 1-2 year old low mileage CPO and keep it for 4 years instead of 5-6.

Lots of rumours that Land Rover/Jaguar is coming to Dieppe within a couple of years or so. Steele Auto already has a permanent Land Rover/Jaguar/Porsche "store" in Champlain Place and apparently you can go through the whole buying process (including delivery) there.

Did you see that Tri Store is building a second store in Dieppe? Impressive that NB will have two MB dealerships.

As for Teslas, there are a bunch of them in NB. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tesla stores in Halifax and Moncton once the Model 3 is readily available.
