So, just dropped the car off...

When you go back to pick up your car ask them where is that diesel C-class wagon they said we would get.

It's in Germany.  They can't get it to start to drive onto the boat.  The MIL is on.

We can blame VW for that one.

Got a call from the SA about 4:45. The ML is ready (I'll pick up in the AM). It does have the timing chain tensioner issue so it will have to go back when parts are in and they can schedule time (2 day job apparently).

Once again, very glad for my free MB extended warranty. Sometimes how a company and a dealership deals with issues is as important as the vehicle itself. I'm very impressed with Tristar Mercedes and MB Canada for stepping up in this instance and providing the 2 year/80K  warranty extension.

I wonder what the retail cost of the repairs done since the 4/80 expired would have been?  I have to guess at least 7500+

Man...what a POS.  That many trips to the dealer and it's barely 5 years old?

You need to start leaving the keys in it in the hope it will get stolen.  But your luck and it would break down before it was down your road...
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Well, I still like the looks/ride/drive etc...seats are comfortable and it's still squeak and rattle free. Interior materials are holding up with little or no signs of wear. I actually think I'll miss it when it goes next year.  :-[ ....mostly because I have no idea what to replace it with  :(

Hell, if there was warranty left for another year I'd probably keep it!

Glad to hear you're overall happy with the ML and the service Mercedes is providing you. But man, you have patience. Must be a Maritime thing.  :P

Do you have a picture of the high maintenance beast?

Nah...you can go out to 7 years on the MB extended but the mileage is still capped at 160K and the last year is powertrain only.

I think issues are a part of FGC ownership.  My friend who bought a used S5 (V8) last year texted me today.  All 8 direct injectors are being replaced on his car under warranty.  Car doesn't even have 60k kms on it.  That said, my dad has been very fortunate.  In 3 years and 100k kms, his 06 E320 has only needed a thermostat and a water pump for unscheduled repair items.  The rest is regular maintenance.  Even his old 2000 ML320 has been relatively free of major issues.  Can only say that he's been lucky since the W163 MLs on average weren't known for being issue free.

Our BMWs have been boringly trouble-free.  :)

@197k on the 2006 325i sport and well, nothing's really broken.

My parents sold my prior X3 to relatives and they love it. And that car is at probably 290k.

Sounds like the kind of luck my dad has had with both of his MBs.

If the 3 series were a turbo, that would be a different story...

Yep, We're planning on keeping my wife's '11 328 long term. The main factor contributing to that is the NA straight six.

Nothing sounds quite the same.........hen I drove and sat in my friend's 2016 VW GTI, it was much less exciting to drive and hear- the sound symposer droans more than anything else. And the driving position was so high compared to the 3er.

Despite being tempted to get another car, I'm going to hold onto the 3er and just save the money towards bike track days and a future bike. The Bimmer's reliable, a great high-speed intercity train, and has all the Euro-spec tweaks I've taken for granted.

There are some things that can be done to minimize the risk with buying a BMW.  First, don't buy any V-8 models.  Second, stay away from turbos.  Lastly, don't buy any year or version of the X5.
