Nah, that's a hybrid  :P
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish and he wakes you up at 5 in the morning.

Just think when in 2035 we are all supposed to have batteries in our cars there will be 200+ batteries in underground parking of every high rise condo.

If they can't put a fire our from a bike battery ........... What could go wrong.  :o

If you want more in life you have to make an effort.

I wonder what insurance companies might have to say about that?

OTOH I also wonder if early gasoline powered cars had a higher incidence of fires? Maybe it's just a matter of time for battery tech to evolve and solve the problem.

Safe(er) chemistries are coming. I saw a youtube test where they damaged various powertool batteries. Some would instantly catch on fire and some would only hiss and smoke a bit, no matter the impact. Sooner or later batteries will be regulated, similar to mattresses, house insulation and other consumer goods.

Well, it's not just batteries.....wasn't Hyundai setting cars on fire with seat heaters a few years ago?

Maybe, but when batteries burn it is next to impossible to extinguish. Here are a couple random articles I found.

The e-bikes are a huge problem with building fires too. Tons of Chinese crap in that unregulated market. Some of these things can reach 150 km/h yet are bike-path legal  :banghead:

False

E-bikes in Canada are regulated to 32 kph with pedal assist. Anything else IS NOT an e-bike. Riding these modified bikes is illegal. But just like speeding in a car, it only matters if you get caught.

You can make anything you like "illegal". The bigger question is can you realistically enforce it?  Seems to me the only answer with a chance of working is to set standards, require products to be tested and approved for Canada and then enforce it at the ports of entry. Takes manpower, time and money. It would also certainly drive prices way up so........ :-\

I'm in the transportation regulation business. Use is regulated - a bit - but how does a cop know if he's facing a 32 km/h bike or a 150 km/h monster?

Anyway, what I meant is that the batteries aren't properly regulated. Every e-bike sold here should at least have CSA certification, amongst others. E-bikes are one of the top home fire sources in NYC.

I agree that batteries need to be regulated and enforced but just like any law, bad people are still going to bad things. No matter what the laws say.

It is so easy to build a 50 kph fake e-bike or even bring over a Class 3 e-bike (45 kph) from the USA.

The police don't have enough resources to fight a lot of crime (car theft near all time high), I'm sure they could car less about the <1% of fucktards making/using illegal ebikes.
