I was hoping for this to become the cheapest EV option out there, but C/D mentions 34kUSD :P ...

I've seen them in Italy and the new one is a slicker, more modern version of the previous 500.

Hopefully Canadian pricing will be in cjeck as we need more cheap EV options.

This article says CAD$39,995

Fiat will launch the 500e in Canada in early 2024, starting with B.C. and Quebec. Other Canadian markets will get the model as production ramps up. Pricing starts from $39,995 plus destination for the (RED) Edition, the only model available, which will include a donation to the Global Fund charity.

A lot of coin for 240 km of range and little space.

Take off the $12k of incentives and this is a commuter's dream! MINI-E and MX-30 doing well here, as did the i3.

For something bopping around the city, looks pretty good. Easy to park, nimble. A friend has the gas version and likes it for that sort of thing

More uncertain on the long term viability of Fiat here

Same. 500X cancelled like the Renegade (these two and the Compass are imported from Italy at high cost). 500e will only launch as "special editions" according to the Trader story. Doesn't sound like a volume strategy.

That's $9k less than the Mini Cooper SE which has a range of 177 km.

The electric Minis also seem to depreciate much faster than their ICE counterparts. Can get a '21 with fairly low KMs for right around $30k right now.

Depreciation here is amped by the effect of the subsidies on the initial purchase price - plenty of nice ones in QC starting at $27k. Considering people are still asking $14k-$17k for a Ford Focus Electric, the MINI-E offers an interesting value for commuters. Most MINI 3-doors I see nowadays are electric, sales of gas models have tanked. It's not a highway car in the beginning, so going EV makes sense here.

Saw a few new 500e listings on Trader. Most dealers show them at $30,785 after federal + provincial rebates, putting it about at par with a base Bolt (that you can't buy anymore). At that price I expect it to do ok in our EV-hungry market.

All MINI's I see these days are the electric coupes or the PHEV Countryman - the market is there for niche urban EV's.

My wife is thrilled to see that there is a possible "NEW" replacement for our 2015 500C if and when it dies.

I wonder if it will be offered with options like sunroof or even as a soft top?

Update:

Dug a little deeper and it seems no sunroof or soft top will be offered. I think colors are going to be limited. I think if sales support this car staying in Canada (I hope so but that is a big "IF") that over time new features and colors would be offered.

The range of around 240 kms is not great but more than enough to suit my wife's driving around the city.
