Aside from the terrible colour combo on the test vehicle, I really like the Alltrack. It's such a good package. VW should offer a cheaper version though. Obviously you can get the normal wagon with AWD but I think a lot of people find the Alltrack styling appealing but might not want a loaded model.

Beat me to it!   >:(

For a "loaded" model, there's a lot of dummy blanks, but look at the ease of access of the engine air filter!!

;D

a $795 Light package that adds dynamic cornering lights, LED headlamps, and headlight range adjustment.
Such a reasonable cost IMO, and I couldn't imagine ordering one without it.

think carefully about whether all-wheel drive is important to you. If not, maybe the Golf Sportwagen is a better option.
As pi will tell us, you can get a Sportwagen with AWD, too...In fact, I'd love a three-way comparo between the Golf, Golf Sportwagen, and Golf Sport Alltrack (sort of like how the Kia hybrid triplets were tested).  Heck, if you could find an e-Golf, then a foursome!  No Tiguans invited - who invited the fat cousin?!  NOBODY INVITE THE FAT COUSIN!

As a final thought, Jacob, if Maddie wants to listen to Tay-Tay, who are you to be a nay-Tay-sayer?

I count two beside the shifter. Where are the others?

The bottom looked like two more, but it looks like it's just the trim:

Personally I'd just save some money and get the regular sportwagen AWD.  I don't find there is enough of a difference in appearance between the two for me to spend the extra $2,000 on a Alltrack.  It's especially nice that VW offers these vehicles in a manual as I doubt any other company (maybe Subaru) will do the same.

Now if only we could get a Golf R in wagon form, then we'd really have something to be excited about.

Strangely, I was under the impression that the MY2018 Golf would get the virtual cockpit across the board... I don't see it there. Is it an option ?

Agreed.

That said, there are a few other differences between the AT and the GSW.

The Alltrack gets a few AWD modes and the ability to customize the driver settings, (steering feel, eco mode, sport mode for thetransmission, etc).  It also has the same aluminum hub carrier as the Golf R and larger brakes than the GSW.  In the US you can also get the Marrakesh brown interior which is by far the best interior offered on the Golf.

All of those things are nice but I prefer the looks of the regular wagon and wouldn't pay the price difference.

VW 4motion only send 60-70% of the torque rearward where GM Twin Clutch can 100% to any single wheel like BMW xDrive.  Acura SH-AWD is similar that only sends 70% forward.

All reviews I saw about 4motion mention 100%

In Canada only the e-Golf and R get virtual cockpit.

Interesting, and regrettable. Even the Golf GTI doesn't get it ?

My choice would be the regular sportwagen comfortline with driver assist.  I wouldn’t use the extra one inch of clearance

Both of which are made in Germany, coincidence?  You can get it in some of their SUV's thought right, like the Tiguan and Atlas.

Is there much difference in ground clearance between the Sportwagon and the Alltrack?

Given the lack of snow here the last number of years, I suspect, I'd just get the regular wagon.  Manual and AWD is awesome, even if front biased.

I think it's an inch and a half made of up a combo of taller tires and increased suspension lift.

Given the lack snow you may need that 1-1/2 to get across the sand dunes when Saskatchewan drys out  ;D
