For all the crap heaped on the Jetta and Passat for being dumbed down and Americanised for NA, the Passat has worked out pretty well for me. It still feels solid, is very comfortable and good on gas.

It's been reliable too except for a couple of minor things early on.

Neat that a block heater is available, you don't see that very often.

Odd that the upgraded stereo is by beats when the Golf gets a Fender.

Pricing definitely seems reasonable for the options available.  The Comfortline would be all i need, though I agree the Highline with the R package is the sweet spot.

What bugs me is that you can't combine the "sporty" features of the R-Line with the luxury of the Execline. Why can't I have both luxury AND sport?

VW is hardly the only offender though.

It's particularly odd since the '15 Golf Highline came with sport springs by default.

There's absolutely no doubt about that.  ;D

What options do you want together that you can't get?  The differential, I'm assuming...?

The differential is actually standard on the Execline. I’d want the sport suspension and the visual bits.

Interesting.  I couldn't care less about the visual bits (I say that now... ;D), but yeah, suspension tuning is a big deal.

Pretty good pricing.   Finance/lease rates will tell the final story.

4 year/80K km bumper to bumper would be great for lease ppl.

"leatherette" is also very good.

As OD mentions, no heated steering wheel is a big booboo (channeling Toyota  :-X)   Currently, the big rage among female buyers.  At least 50% of buyers care less about the finer details of the motor or transmission, but they zero in on things like a heated steering wheel.  Deal breaker for many.

Our TDI Jetta is a Comfortline with sport package. The buttoned down suspension was well worth the extra cost let alone the visuals/bi-xenon headlights.

I agree the Highline with R-Line will be the sweet spot. The exceline with R would likely cost to much.....for a Jetta,

I mentioned earlier my disdain for the chrome grilles that VW uses. The R-Line fixes that.

That's good to hear :) Do you know how much the R-Line package is?

Yeah, that's a miss.  Particularly because it looks like it will be available in the US.

In addition to heated front seats, ventilated front seats are newly available on the SEL and SEL Premium, and the Premium also gets heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel.

It's kind of pricey at $1700.

Build and Price is up on vw.ca.

Cool thanks. I'm not used to VW updating their website so promptly.

$1700 for the larger wheels, but I assume no sport suspension?

Really?? I don't like leatherette at all.. whenever I look at a current VW I keep thinking that I would have to make do with a trendline to get cloth seats or go highline to get leather.. If it wasn't for that comfortline would be the sweeet spot.. And it looks like either they changed the names of the trim or a base model trendline is still coming some time later.

The V-Tex leatherette is supposed to be pretty good.  Wears really well and comfortable.  I don't see it as a big downgrade from leather.

I'm a cloth guy though.

The brochure lists the sport suspension: https://vw-website-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/vw-modelspages-18/assets/documents/2019/jetta/Jetta2019_en_ca.pdf

$1700 seems like a decent price to me...especially the chrome grill delete ;)

sport suspension
17" wheels
XDS (differential system)
cornering lights
Remote start
and the ambient lights looked pretty fancy at NAIAS

Objectively you might be right, but somehow knowing I'm sitting on plastic rather than dead cows seems so wrong to me.
