I don't think you're being unreasonable. They're asking essentially full MSRP for a used car.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

heh...

I've found that the old timers can still carry on with the sale without the four square, but it completely throws the young guys off of their game when you tell them you want to see the invoice and to put the four square away.

I have never been presented the four square.  Hmmm, I am disappointed  ;D.

I've never seen it personally but a buddy of mine was truck shopping a few years ago and that's what the GMC dealer pulled out. He ended up with a Ford, partly because the dealer was much more transparent about the pricing.

I know me too. Never seen it. But maybe I'm just such an swerver they don't bother. A couple times now I've gotten "you seem like a guy that knows his stuff so I'm not going to deal with this :censor:" when referring to all the dealer-add extras.

Although my 1LE did show up on delivery day with wheel locks and an extra $62 on the invoice. I told them to take them off and write me a cheque. Idiots.

Very common to say that to every under-40 year old male. Especially if girlfriend is in tow. Never hurts to boost a guy's ego when trying to sell him something.  ;)

And to repeat what others have said: Basing a purchase on selling price rather than payments is the first chapter in Car Buying 101. Personally I welcome it. Weeds out the morons that don't understand that asking for a $40 Bi-weekly discount over 84 months is like asking for a $7000 discount.

Buying in this scenario might be a better option...if his Fusion has tons of km, you’d expect the same to happen with the Honda.

Actually he bought it 6 years ago at auction for $4,300 and it had just over 200,000kms at the time.  It has over 300,000 now and requires $3,000 to fix to pass inspection, so not worth fixing.

He's getting zero for the Fusion, or maybe even paying them to take it.  Forget trading it.

According to honda.ca the 2017 CRV is eligible for $750 lease/finance support. So this deal sounds terrible.

That applies to new, not this one, and yeah, it means that I'd for sure ditch looking at the one with 12K on it, and just pay the same for a new one.  Are there people that buy used cars for the same price as a new one?  There must be based on the number of used cars I see offered at the same price as a new one, but I'm not one of those people.

Why wouldn't it apply to this one? If it's a demo it has never been registered and that usually means all factory incentives apply.

Yep it does apply to the demo as you mention.  It is a crap deal and I'm advising him to not take it.  They don't want to be reasonable and maybe they don't have to in order to sell to someone else.

On another note the new CRV is very impressive and I'd say best in class.  It's too bad this deal is so poor as I'm sure he'd like this vehicle for the entire time he'd own it.

Why wouldn't it apply to this one? If it's a demo it has never been registered and that usually means all factory incentives apply.

Why not negotiate with a few other dealers in NB ? These days there are dealers that are willing to strike a deal over the phone/email. It's easy to tell which dealers do it a lot based on how they interact.

Or even see what's available in the GTA? I found it 2k cheaper or so than the Maritimes when buying a used fit. When I bought my fit I was able to take care of financing and everything on the phone. I just had to show up to pick it up.

That'll be the next step for any CR-V shopping.

when we purchased our last couple of vehicles, we built them online so we knew how much the car costs, plus what the payment would be...as we were financing, we knew what we wanted regarding a payment, but since the the financing was 0%, that certainly helped keep the payment down (and relative to the price of the vehicle)...we didn't really get much in the way of a "deal" per se, just the factory incentives, but honestly, the service has been good, and the process was pretty stress free and easy...as well, the vehicles were already very competitive in terms of pricing and had the features we wanted, so the price was fair.

Update, basically the offer they sent back was full MSRP, but they throw in winter rims and tires, plus some $328 winter package which is basically some rubber mats.  Told him they had to do better than that and they basically said they can sell it no problem with this deal.  Maybe that's true but a demo that is a model year old and over 12,000 Kms should have more off than what I would guess is $1,000 worth of accessories.  But maybe I'm being unreasonable.

are they asking full MSRP, or full "original asking price"? very very different things.

and winter rims and tires are about 1400 for the dealer... and the winter thing they are saying is 328...

if they are truly at msrp, why wouldn't you buy a new one instead of a demo?

My thoughts exactly. I don't think the dealer is asking MSRP for a demo, unless they're high.

i'm on some other sites as well, and the word choice is often wrong dealing with this stuff... this is a case of the words not just having different connotations, but different factual meanings.

i just had a customer super pissed at me for "lying"... she saw the ads about big truck discounts... so looks at one on my lot... listed at 35788 with a hanger in the window stating "sale price!!!11!!1oneoneone" or whatever. the window sticker on the car lists the car at 48k or so, so the deal IS good....

she tells me, "so the 10k is off that price right?" (pointing to the hanger)... well no, that already has all discounts applied so you can see at a glance what your actual price will be. "you guys are crooks! the ad says 10500 off, so i DEMAND that or I'm calling BBB"...

ok... have a nice day.

edit* spelling bothered me!

Seems to me Tooscoops that you need a deep pit full of lime in the corner of your lot to push some of these people in.  Much better than just letting them walk away.
