Mechanic Mistakes
« on: February 09, 2021, 01:09:00 pm »
Quick question for anyone that may have had experience with this in the past. Not long ago I got an oil change, in the process they damaged the housing and caused and oil leak and then when I asked why oil was leaking they said 'oh thats transmission oil' which I didnt believe. So I took the vehicle to a transmission shop and they informed me that the housing (and whatever else I don't have the notes on me) was wrecked from the oil change and it cost me $1200 to fix! Is the oil shop at fault or am I basically up S Creek here?

You have the damaged part.  Commence a legal proceeding in Small Claims Court.  Nothing has materially changed.

Is small claims court even worth the waste of time for really not that much money?!?!!?

The problem is the the original shop does not do that kind of work, more of a service shop (tires, oil..ect). They were also the ones that told me to go elsewhere when I took it to them to look at. I also have the broken parts from the other mechanic who is performing the repairs. Who knows, maybe they value not getting bad reviews

That's for the OP to figure out.  But that is the legal remedy.  A lot depends on who is the Defendant as to whether they are interested in a settlement.  Unless they get served with a claim, nothing is going to happen.  Ontario Small Court claim is about $100.

i would press harder on the shop that damaged it...hopefully they will help resolve it.

go with AS's plan.

i would imagine 1200 is enough money to you... might not be worth it for jiffy lube or whomever to fight it and risk the bad word of mouth.
