Day 4

Day by Day Review: 2010 Volkswagen Routan daily car reviews

Like I said on day three, the engine does idle roughly and, well, it sounds a little coarse when you put your foot in it deep but it does rev smoothly and cleanly and moves the vehicle with authority.

During a week with a very light accelerator foot I averaged 11.9L/100km in mostly city driving, which is exactly what I achieved in the Chrysler Town & Country. A short highway trip this weekend helped drop the average significantly: after 550km — half highway and half city — I averaged 10.5L/100km.

This is pretty good, in my opinion: for a vehicle with a rather large engine and a lot of weight to move about, it does a good job of keeping costs down in the fuel department. If you are not easy on the gas, though, this changes rather rapidly and one could expect to see averages of around 16L/100km in the city with a heavy foot.
