For the 2011 model year Subaru has enhanced the popular Forester compact SUV, with improved fuel economy from a new 2.5-litre Boxer engine, new navigation and audio system and new features in various trim packages.

My Forester is equipped with the 2.5-litre boxer engine that produces 170 horsepower and 174lb-ft of torque. As a treat for the week, this is mated to a manual five-speed transmission, powering, of course, all four wheels using Subaru’s Symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

My tester is a 2.5X Touring model, which adds 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, an advanced AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA audio system, voice-activated Bluetooth hands-free, MediaHub for iPod/USB audio integration with Bluetooth streaming audio and auto up/down driver’s side power window.

This is added onto the base model and the convenience package which also adds a 10-way power driver’s seat.

With a trip to Mont-Tremblant this week, I will have a lot of driving time on curvy hilly roads to give this vehicle a true run for its money, and Mont-Tremblant is one place where this Forester will see many of its brothers and sisters from the assembly line.
