Like the Tacoma TRD Sport, the Tundra version was surprisingly adept at off-road manoeuvres. Not that we didn’t expect competence, as many of the trucks made their way through without too much difficulty. But the Tundra TRD Sport made the difficult path easy, and when the four-wheel low range setting was activated, the operation was as simple as changing a gear, with no lag or delay. That mechanical sophistication seemed to echo throughout the Toyota, which impressed with its solid build and intelligent design. The Yamaha Special Edition that was entered featured 17-inch wheels and fender flares to give it a sporty appearance, but with 271 hp and 313 lb.ft of torque, it didn’t need any help in the performance department.
