Another “basic” truck from Toyota; this one a full-size, half-ton vehicle. We say “basic” because trucks like this are built with work in mind, rather than recreation. Rubber floor mats are durable, easily cleaned and inexpensively replaced; box height is low enough to lift heavy objects into, without having to drop them; cabin has a bench seat, and no extension for occasional rear seat passengers (some makers don’t make a cab like this anymore!). The Tundra is solidly built but drives smoothly, and its big box is a match for most applications. The tailgate drops with a thunk, the doors slam with a thud, the engine is quiet and the five-speed automatic transmission is good for fuel economy on the highway. Unladen, and for a truck, it’s also stupidly fast from 0-100 km/h.
