Best known for its surprisingly roomy cabin and ingenious multi-position rear “Magic Seats”, the Honda Fit subcompact returns reinvented for the 2015 model year with edgier styling, a brand new platform with a stronger, safer body structure, a new 1.5-litre DOHC direct injection four-cylinder engine with more power and better fuel economy, a standard six-speed manual that replaces the previous five-speed, a new optional continuously variable transmission that replaces the five-speed automatic, more passenger room, and newly available features such as leather seats, moonroof, and a seven-inch touchscreen with infotainment options.
The new styling is bolder and edgier though somewhat bulkier. Narrower headlights and prominent upper and lower grilles give the new Fit a wider and more purposeful appearance while a shorter hood merges almost seamlessly with the steeply raked windshield. Prominent body creases in the doors leading up to the large taillights create a wedge-shaped profile, while the rear bumpers now have sharper outer edges designed to facilitate air flow. The fake air vents in the front and rear bumpers are kind of cheesy, but overall we think the new Fit presents a stronger, bolder styling statement in line with the current trend away from rounded forms to more geometric shapes. In other words, we like it.
Though it is 41 mm shorter overall, the 2015 Fit has a roomier passenger cabin thanks to a 30-mm longer wheelbase, shorter engine bay, redesigned rear wheel arches and revised rear suspension. The Fit’s passenger compartment volume is now a class-leading 2,710 litres, up from 2,572 last year. Front and rear legroom, particularly for outboard rear passengers, is the roomiest of any subcompact car in its class, although the Nissan Versa Note is a very close second.
However, the increase in the Fit’s passenger room comes at the expense of cargo volume behind the rear seats, which has decreased from 585 to 470 litres. That’s still spacious, but second in its category behind the Versa Note with 532. Still, if we’re handing out awards, the 2015 Fit gets first place for its overall cargo volume of 1,492 litres with the rear seats folded down, even though it’s been reduced from the 2014 Fit’s total of 1622.
All 2015 Fits add a bunch of new standard features without adding significantly to last year’s MSRP: base DX models ($14,495) get a new five-inch colour LCD monitor and a multi-angle rearview camera, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, manual height adjuster for the driver’s seat, one-touch turn signals, map lights, Eco-Assist instrument lighting, and partial soft-touch dash surfaces. A new six-speed manual transmission is standard in all Fit trim levels but the optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) is not available in the base DX trim.
Additional new features in the 2015 Fit LX ($17,295) include a seven-inch colour touchscreen for audio functions and HondaLink infotainment functions, dynamic guidelines for the rearview camera, SMS text message capability, USB and HDMI ports, heated front seats, centre armrest with a big storage bin, and an Econ button that activates a fuel-efficient driving program. The LX is available with the optional CVT.

New in the EX ($19,195) are paddle shifters for the optional CVT, a new one-touch power glass moonroof, LaneWatch blind spot camera for the passenger side, and heated mirrors with larger driver’s mirror.
At the top of the Fit totem pole is the EX-L ($21,295) with new leather seating and shift knob, push-button start and keyless entry, automatic climate control, navigation system, Sirius XM satellite radio and HD radio, and turn signal indicators in the mirrors.
Base DX models are available with a choice of three exterior colours: White Orchid Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic and Milano Red. Fit LX, EX and EX-L are offered with three additional exterior colour choices: Aegean Blue Metallic, Mystic Yellow Pearl, and Crystal Black Pearl. Fit interiors come in any interior colour you want, as long as it black.
