Saturday was fun; head over the Cadillac dealer, hand over the keys to the ATS and step into the brand new 2014 Cadillac CTS — hey free upgrade! If only it was that easy to trade up cars — no fuss, no muss and best of all no money changing hands… that’s the dream.

This weeks Cadillac is powered by the 3.6L V6 and as a result has a wee bit more get up and go than the 2.0L equipped ATS. But the CTS is also a larger car — a 5-series competitor, a mid-sized luxury sedan which has grown for 2014.

I’d have to say that Cadillac has really hit their stride with their art and science design theme. This sleeker, lower and longer design is incredibly attractive offering an almost perfect balance between sport, luxury and understated elegance. My tester is painted in a Majestic Plum Metallic or in man-speak, purple — but because of the metallic flake it looks gray or purple depending on the light.

This 3.6L Premium AWD sedan comes standard with a slew of features at no extra charge, aside from the $520 purple paint the only extra my car is sporting are a set of gorgeous 19-inch aluminum wheels for an extra $1,095. Standard features include the CUE system, tri-zone automatic climate control, electric glovebox, sunshades (power rear and manual side), keyless ignition, leather seating, power trunk release, heated and ventilated driver and passenger seats and much much more.

If I were to list all the standard features this article would probably be ten pages long — let’s just say it is loaded. There is not much here that it is missing. After stepping out of the ATS it is obvious the CTS is targeted at a more affluent customer, even more so than the outgoing CTS model — this vehicle feels ultra premium.
