The Chevrolet Impala was first launched in 1958, making the 2014 Impala the 10th generation Impala. Long gone are the tail fins of the ’50s and ’60s, but thankfully also long gone is the boxy ’80s disaster. What hasn’t changed much over the years is the basic concept of a large family sedan.

The 2014 Impala offers more space, more power and more technology than the outgoing 2013 model and an upgraded interior and exterior design catapults the Impala up the list of vehicles one should be shopping in the large sedan category.

My tester is an LT model with 2LT package that includes a 3.6L V6 engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission that spin the front 19-inch wheels.

The base price for this is $32,945 – but a few options makes the price climb quickly. Added to my tester is the convenience package, the premium audio package, the navigation package, premium seating package and the advanced safety package. All nice packages but they bring my tester up to just over $41,000.

Believe it or not, I’ve never driven a Chevrolet Impala, so first impressions were key that’s for sure. My first impression of this new Impala was completely directed at the size – this vehicle is huge and it feels like it as well.

MSRP as tested (including destination): $41,060
