The G-wagen sits in the Mercedes range like the Matterhorn sits on the horizon. It is massive, iconic, immediately recognizable. It is, without a doubt, the most immediately recognizable Mercedes product they make: there’s no need for the giant badge on the front for this heavy hitter.
Boxy, militaristic looking, and propelled by a trio of engines that extends from a twin-turbocharged V8 to a ridiculous twin-turbo V12, the G is overpowered, overweight, and over here. It is astounding off the ground, and eyeball-grabbing on it. Here’s the story of how it evolved over the years.
