NEW FOR 2015:
– New Autobahn trim.
– Improved under-body aerodynamics.
– Blind-spot monitoring system with cross-traffic alert available on Autobahn.
While the standard Jetta gets a slightly updated look for 2015, the warmed-up performance Jetta GLI carries on, visually unchanged other than some new wheel designs, and a new premium Autobahn trim.
With its clean lines and subtle body kit, the GLI is the opposite of the Honda Civic Si and Ford Focus with their pronounced wings and aggressive visages. By comparison, the GLI is downright stealthy.
We say stealthy because the spec sheet doesn’t fully convey the GLI’s performance potential. The 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that is shared with the Beetle Turbo, has plenty of poke and a rather distinctive bovine soundtrack courtesy of VW’s sound generator. Handling is lively thanks to its standard XDS brake torque vectoring front differential and fully independent rear suspension. Comfortable sports seats, plus upgraded materials and new instruments make it a great place to pass the time. It’s a fine budget alternative to a base BMW 320i.
The GLI is available in two trims: GLI and Autobahn.
Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, alarm, armrest with storage compartment, rear centre armrest, dual 12-volt power outlets, compass, cruise control, floor mats with red stitching, trip computer, KESSY proximity key with push-button start, ambient interior lighting, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, illuminated vanity mirrors, six-speaker 6.5-inch display audio system with AM/FM/satellite radio, six-disc CD changer, SD card reader, MDI with iPod connectivity, reverse camera, six-way adjustable sport seats, heated front seats, leatherette upholstery with red stitching, 60/40 split folding rear seat, aluminum pedals, leather-wrapped steering wheel, shift knob and handbrake lever, tilt and telescoping steering column, Bluetooth, black headliner, Carbon Optik interior trim, power windows, door sill scuff plates with GLI logo, GLI grille, automatic headlamps, fog lights, LED tail lights, power mirrors with integrated turn signals, rear spoiler, heated windshield washer nozzles, rain sensing wipers, sport suspension.
