– AWD, XRS trims dropped.

After being dropped from the 2014 lineup in the US, the outlook for Toyota’s five-door compact hatchback looks beige at best. AWD and the hot-ish XRS models have been dropped, leaving the lowly base Matrix to fight the good fight.

The Matrix is now only available with the base 1.8-litre four-cylinder, mated to either a five-speed manual or agricultural four-speed automatic. Since the AWD model has been dropped, the Matrix is now only available with front-wheel drive.

Features on the base Matrix include tilt & telescopic steering, a four-speaker audio system featuring CD with MP3/WMA capability, auxiliary input for portable audio devices and steering wheel-mounted audio controls, a 60/40 split fold down rear seat, outside temperature gauge, map lamps, power adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, dual vanity mirrors, and cargo-area interior lamp and tie-down rings.
