Here we go again! This week, I’m in a fully loaded Lexus IS 350 AWD. The Lexus IS line starts at a paltry $32,900 for a base IS 250 RWD, while the IS 350 AWD that I am driving starts at $44,950. Add in the Luxury and Navigation package, for a cool $8,000, and the price jumps to an as-tested $52,950, but you do get a lot of luxury for this money.

On top of the standard features on the IS 350, the Luxury and Navigation package adds a goodly amount of features, although I’m not sure they are worth the $8,000 premium. The package includes: a 14-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, one wallet-sizd smart card key, clearance and back up sensors, power rear window sunshade, power tilt and telescopic steering, power moonroof, hard drive-based navigation system with backup camera, reverse auto tilting exterior mirrors, electrochromic side view mirrors, premium leather seat surfaces, heated & ventilated front seats, driver memory seat system with three settings, woodgrain trim, front illuminated Lexus scuff plates and rain-sensing wipers.

The IS350 is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine that outputs 306hp using a direct ignition system and dual VVT-i. This is coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and put to the ground with the new-for-2011 all-wheel drive system that distributes power to all wheels, 70 per cent of it directed to the rear wheels and the balance to the fronts under normal operation, with an even 50/50 split possible when slippage is detected.
