For 2012, the Land Rover LR4 receives several upgrades, including a new Gen 2.1 electric architecture that enables enhanced capabilities for the standard and available audio and navigation features. The new top audio has been upgraded to a 17-speaker Harman/Kardon system, while Portable Audio Connectivity allows streaming and control of audio files from an iPod, iPad or USB-connect device, along with Bluetooth streaming audio. The new “Say What You See” voice activation helps the user learn applicable voice commands by displaying a step-by-step format on the touch screen, while the phone book function can now store several thousand entries, up from 700 in last year’s model.
The LR4 uses a direct-injection 5.0-litre V8 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Its permanent four-wheel drive includes an electronically-controlled locking centre differential, four-corner air suspension, hill descent control, and a driver-selectable Terrain Response that can be set for general driving, grass/gravel/snow, mud/ruts, sand, or rock crawl.
Trim levels are the V8, HSE, and HSE Lux. The LR4 and HSE are five-seater, while the HSE Lux adds a third row of seats. The seven-seater package can also be added to the two lower trim levels.
Features on the V8 include 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather seats, tire pressure monitoring system, privacy glass, power sunroof, cruise control, cargo cover, Harman/Kardon CD stereo with auxiliary input, seven-inch touch screen, keyless entry, brake assist, pushbutton start, and trailer sway control.
The HSE adds navigation system, front park distance control, Sirius satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, heated steering wheel, iPod interface, USB port, and stereo touch screen.
The HSE Lux adds three-row seating, premium leather package, rearview camera, adaptive bi-xenon headlamps, automatic high beams, front console cooler box, power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, electrically-adjustable driver’s seat bolster, driver’s side memory, interior ambience lighting, proximity key, Logic7 surround sound system, and rear-seat headphone sockets.
