For 2012, changes to the Jaguar XJ are in trim. The XJL Supersport adds a new standard Rear Seat Comfort package that includes electric recline, lumbar adjustment and massage functions, while new available packages include an Executive Package of fold-down business trays, electric rear sunshade, upgraded carpeting, heated leather steering wheel, gloss wood veneer choices and chrome mirror housing on the long-wheelbase model and an Illumination Package that adds illuminated sill plates, trunk latch and front and rear air vents previously available only on the Supersport model. The warranty, which was changed in 2011 to five years from four, returns to 4 years/80,000.
The XJ comes with a choice of three engines. The XJ (regular wheelbase) and XJL (long-wheelbase) use a naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre V8. The XJL Supercharged uses a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that makes 470 horsepower, while the XJ Supersport and XJL Supersport use a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that produces 510 horsepower. All use a six-speed automatic transmission that features Jaguar’s signature rotary dial gear selector, which rises out of the console when the ignition is turned on.
